Anyone here think the new Dunlop mx 53 fronts are garbage, I got one after Reading all the hype on them and really wanted to like them but think they are really bad. This is for bush /woods riding I found they are no good with grip on tree roots or off camber hills and will slide out with no warning .has anyone else had a similar experience or just me. I also have a 53 rear and think it's a great tyre but the front is almost
dangerous

I actually thought mine gave plenty of warning before losing grip and is the easiest front tire to slide around a turn. However it slides out pretty easy and I went back to soft or mid soft fronts. Mx 33 and 3s are both better in the woods. 33 has some deflection though. I am on a Pirelli mx32 midsoft now and first ride felt pretty good. Michelin is also popular here probably due to the soft sidewalls. Should have less deflection than an mx33. You want to talk about a tire that throws you on the ground without much warning try the at81. I hate those.

Yeah, Im not happy with the 53 front or rear, , I tried them in both hard pack and medium conditions and im not a fan.

I have almost new 53's on a spare wheel set now but Im going to take them off, the MX 33 front and rear seems to be my favorite now.

I love mine in sandy conditions (which it isn´t supposes to do well in). It´s worlds apart from the 6days extreme tire that was stock on the husky tpi...

Stil have to try it in the woods and mx though...

The rear is good in med/hard pack because it lasts a little longer than its competitors.
On the front the best thing you can do is mount a mid soft 32.😉

Anything has to be better than the AT81s that came stock on my ktm.

I've been running the rear 120/80 on my 450 at the track for Mid-Hard condions and those tracks almost always have sand sections. The tire works excellent at 12.5-13 PSi or with a Soft Bib.

I run them in the front out in the Dez or on true 'Hard Pack' & they work pretty damn good. For all other conditions, I think Dunlop fans should probably run the 33 frt.

My normal set-up is 33 front/53 rear.

However...the BEST "all around" tire for my money? Metzeler Mid-Softs for about $145/set delivered to my door from RMATVMC. These tires work well everywhere. The comaparable Pirellis are the same story (Same company). Also, Metzeler/Pirelli bibs are excellent.

Pirelli's rear sand tire is the ULTIMATE sand tire. I can even get away with running it out in the dunes! silly

Other than the 3s I am really not a huge fan of Dunlops. Granted I ride hardpack 3-5 times a year at most.

|

Unleaded tastes a little tangy. Supreme is kinda sour, and diesel tastes pretty good.

I took a chance and tried the 53 coming off the AT81. Terrible off road tire. I ride/race eastern PA single track with roots and rocks. Does not work, period. No grip at all. Went back to the AT81 and all is well again.

Tire knife or Sawzall to cut mid lines. All the factory types custom cut 🤣

I thought the stock tires were pretty good. Then again I just run starcross 5 mediums everywhere because they’re cheap

Know a few people that don't like the grip and slip feel of the 53's. Hoosiers are my go to the last 2 years. Pirellis also offer a much better front then the Dunlop mx53.

At MotoSport, the tires I run in the summer Pirelli Extra-X for 2 days rides like "Susanville to Reno" and prerunning in Baja...in sizes for my SXF: $133.88
In sizes for my FE350 (110/100-18 rr): $136.36 (Just checked RMATVMC: $122.98 ORDERED THEM!)
These tires LAST and they even work suprisingly well at places like Pala & Glen Helen.

All the while...a set of Dunlop 33s from MotoSport:
450 SXF 19" rear: $180 (80/100 frt & 120/80 rear)
Or...and get this! This is INSANE: $215 (80/100 frt & 110/90 rear) this is a HELL NO! grin
Or... $189 (80/100 MX33 frt & 80/120 MX53 rear)

Or... $169.65 (80/100 MX33 frt & 80/120 MX53 rear) at RMATVMC! Save that MONEY!

Last spring I ran a Bridgestone 204 rear and it was EXCELLENT! It was AWESOME at Glen Helen & Pala...and then I went out to the Super Secret riding area west of Edwards AFB (As seen in Haakers latest Vlog)...and that tire KICKED ASS out there in the Snow, in the Hard-Pack, in THE ROCKS, in the Sand, in the MUD...we even had plenty of pavement! I had to ride over a Dryer Drum: It hooked up! I had to ride up a few water-falls...Braaaap! It hooooooked up!
The tire was crazy good! grin
That tire KICKED ASS; but, it's virtually impossible to find, so...I'm gonna try it's replacemnt, the X20. It's $78.88 at RMATVMC & I've heard good things from a few friends that've run it.

I'll report back when I do.

In December I'm gonna ride The Rip to Cabo...pretty sure I'll run the Pirelli's or Metzelers for that.

Note: I've had local shops match RMATVMC and MotoSport prices...like Fators or Lee's in Redding...even 3 Bros in OC.

My local shop sells Dunlops for right at or below rmatv pricing and there is usually a $20 per tire Dunlop rebate if you buy from a shop and not online. Unfortunately they are the worst to mount and other than mx3s fronts I dont really like any other Dunlop tires. mx33 front is just ok lots of turn in and then pushes mid corner out for me. It does hold up a lot better in hard pack than the Mx3s. I have not tried mx33 rears although I hear they are good.

Yea when I tried a set I liked them on a hard base moto track, but anything in the woods I didn’t think they where that good. But next summer I’ll definitely be giving them another shot for those dry hard days at the track.

Manny, I just mounted a X20 on the KX250 since i’m riding that this week until i get the 450 back up and running. I ran one on my old KX450 last year and it worked great at LACR! I have also have an extra pirelli mid soft i’ll throw on the front as the X30 i have on it now is pretty worn down!

Try 10 psi in the front . Imo 10 psi on a mx 53 front is like 15psi on a Michelin . I dont have any problems with flat s at 10 psi . And ride rocky hard pack mostly

What tire pressure are you all running while using the MX53?
Stew Baylor seems to like them in GNCC recently:

They are a little too hard for riding track. The front doesn't seem to stick into corners as well. But It's primarily an off-road tire so I guess I'm asking too much for them to be great everywhere.

For Utah MX33 front all year round, but mix in the 53 rear up for those summer to fall days and then back over to the 33 for the wet/spring season

Curious how this setup worked out for you. I recently switched to MX33s from Pirellis and not sure how I feel about the 33 front compared to the MX32 mid hard which I really had no complaints about.

Yes, I like the Bridgestone x30 front with an x 40 rear at my local track in the warmer months and after about lunch time when the dirt is packing down. I like dunlop mx 33 there in the colder months, they work great all day then.
Goiing to try some Bridgestone x 20's for winter soon though, and maybe a dunlop mx 12 scoop rear, would be interesting to see how that goes
