WAIT!!.......Before you slam me , let me explain. First off , Stewart looked friggin' amazingly comfortable and fast on that Suzuki.....completely different than what he did on that Yamaha.

RD....He looked like he was fighting that bike every square inch on the track out there. Nothing like he did last year when he was on the Suzuki. I know it's a new bike , and he hasn't had a chance to race it outdoors yet......but that SOB looked like it was all over the place.

If they were to get that thing feeling smooth like his Suzuki's from the last couple years , I think he could of gone and Stewart a little more trouble.

BUT.....who knows? I was so impressed by James and his style on that Suzuki......he made it look effortless. I wasn't expecting him to look that comfortable at the very first round. I think the rest of the field needs to figure something out quick before it's a run away season. I am confident RD and KTM will be making some changes.......as I've learned never to count that guy out....EVER!

Other notes :

What the hell happened to team Honda Brayton and Hahn??

Bagget......that kid is simply a maniac!!!!........he posted a 2:05 in that first moto when Stewart , RD and the rest were putting down 2:06 and 2:07's....on 450's!!...........un-friggin'-believable!!

The only time I noticed it was in the big breaking bumps. It seemed like it wanted to buck him off through that stuff...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it happen every year that 250F's post faster lap times than 450F's at Hangtown?

i agree, something wasnt right for sure.. and considering dungey looked like he had been wrestling with 2 giant hippos and a pack of retarted squirrels for 60+4 compared to stewarts hour long massage by two 4ft. little cambodian women whos only goal in life is to please james so they can stay in the US and eat Mcdonalds instead of crickets and cockaroaches speaks volumes..

No disrespect, just calling it like it is. It kind of reminded me of RV last year in the early rounds when his bike wasn't dialed in. I really think Roger and the guys will be able to dial in the KTM for Dungey. Stewart's problem with the Yamaha was beyond just suspension adjusting. The only thing I question is the potential of the WP forks. E.G., is it even possible to get them on the same level as say the Showa Honda forks. Seriously, watch the Honda's go through the rough stuff. The wheel is much more on the ground compared to the other brands. It blows my mind. lol

I thought he was carving some nice lines through the turns, especially that long sweeper.

I thought so too. He looked fast to me coming through the pack in the 1st moto. Haven't watched the second moto yet.

It could've been the Red Bull/vodka, but Dungey's bike looked just fine from where I was at...

Just sayin'

I thought Dungey and Stewart both looked amazing. Providing they both stay healthy we are going to see some great battles all the way to Lake Elsinore.

RD appeared to be riding quite well IMHO. Unless he pulls a hole shot, he always looks like he is a bit slow. He moves forward slowly which is a bit frustrating for sure.

JS is on it for sure and RD will have figure out how to wind that KTM up sooner!

Took the words right off my keyboard.

One time in specific really sticks out for me, one of the downhill sections with some heavy breaking bumps, Dungey got mad huckabuck and damn near got his hands shook off the bars. He still made the inside rut, which was impressive, but it felt like watching Mike Alessi or something. It reminded me of Dungey's ride at the MEC, which KTM ended up turning around pretty well I'd say, so I'm sure by round 3 or 4 he'll have the bike more in control. Or not.

It looked like he was having some trouble for sure, but that's no excuse at all. The difference between those two though is that if Stewart wasn't comfortable and in Dungey's position, he'd have pushed harder and probably crashed. Dungey was content with where he was in the first round of a 12 round series.

No excuses but RD never shines at Hangtown. Ya he won the first moto last year but got walked on by Reed second moto. Texas will tell us how his setup is on the KTM. Kills it at Texas, past couple years had 30sec leads. Yes he ran out of gas last year I realize

Dungey is one smart, fast, smooth dude, and DeCoster/KTM will do what they have to in order to perfect the bike. They want that championship.

much to do about nothing as usual.....Dungey looked worse in '10 on his suzuki after coming off the SX title. He was way off and ended up winning the title. Baggett did the same exact thing last year and then struggled in other races enough to ride himself out of a title. Thats why they run the other 11 races.......

Agreed. Dungey looked like he was fighting the bike most of the day. I did notice improvement from moto1 to moto2. Bagget carried incredible speed the entire track. Stewart just looked smooth all over. I remember one point where Stewart had the fastest line triple into the corner. Dungey followed the same line one lap. Never repeated it. Downhill breaking areas of the track seemed difficult for him and the bike. Other than these areas of the track, dungey would make up time on Stewart that is until a few lappers got in the way.

He may have been off the pace, but was on Stewart's tail for a good part of moto two, for all his struggles, not too bad really.

Funny....in my notes (yes, I'm a loser...I watch races and take notes) I wrote "RD KTM looks better outdoors, turns and sticks great"

I also wrote:

"Hondas and Suzukis look like the same bike with different plastic" meaning they both seem to handle the terrain the same.

"Millsaps - seemed surprised a few times"..

"Bagget - holy sh!t"

One other thing to remember is this is statistically Dungey's worst round...I dont believe he has EVER won an overall at Hangtown.

Dungey looks like he is in pain riding that KTM even down the pit road. looks like the footpegs are too high and the bars are too low. His body is bent up like a pretzel. You dont know shit if you dont see it.

I Was at the race and thought his bike looked good. Back end was moving around less than everyone else's. Stewart had a few close calls first moto but his bike looked better the second. Dungey was faster than everyone through the rollers and his bike looked great through there while most were swapping.

Imo, Dungey's bike looks very sensative to his pace. He started ou the race pretty tentative & the bike didn't look that great - even with the track being smoother. As he picked up pace, the suspension looked like it was working much better. By the time he was running 2:06's it looked good. I'm betting their set-up is based off his best times, without traffic. Then when he's forced to slow down a bit, the suspension is a bit stiff and bucks a bit... Just my 02

It's early in the season. Once that KTM is dialed in and it will not take long Dungey will be right there with Stewart. That Suzuki looked great and it always has been a great mx machine the past few years. Stewart made a great decision. He's been beaten by that machine plenty of times.

Here are some of MY notes from Hangtown:

"Damn, I'd tap that".

"I'm pretty damn buzzed"

"These nachos are pretty damn good".

"I'm hammered"

"I'd blow any of these racers for some sweaty goggles".

And that's why we are all here writing on a message board and not racing or running a race team.

JS had a couple of sketchy moments as well, losing the front end a couple of times/

I'll mention this to The Man at the Tuesday meeting. What bars & pegs do you recommend? We need to get them on order!!! Have any other things we should change?
