Man, I was looking for that clip the other day. I can't even imagine the stress and pressure on
Goose right then. Heavy moment handled by a legendary mechanic. (And incredible ride by Dungey.)

Wasn't something electrical where they just swapped the whole harness or something like that?

So what was your first thought at Southwick, where you missed a start due to an electrical problem?

A little over a minute went by [after the gate dropped] and they were out there on the track doing their first lap and I was just thinking 'I can't believe I'm losing the championship this way.' You think you lose a championship on a bad day or something like that. You don't think you're going to lose a championship because your bike didn't make it to the line. My mom and I were walking back and I was kind of fired up and then my bike came over the hill and I put my goggles on and made the best of it. Despite everything that happened that day we did a really good job of limiting the damage. For what the day was it could have been a lot worse.

On another note, something like that could be inspiring for someone else to never give up.

Great video moment caught right there.

Dunge is a beast.... I miss him racing.

Here's another problem #5 overcame.

Goose was absolutely flying when he came over the hill, but I’ll bet in Dungey’s mind, he looked like he was on a trail ride. He really kept it together for a what? 20 year old?

He’s had some interesting bike problems.
- Gas issue in Texas?
- Losing a chain in sx
- the suicide shifting in mec
- electrical at southwick
- lost a gas cap some where and had to put right?

Saw it in person and the drama, disappointment, anticipation, and excitement were all off the charts.
Seeing him fly up the start straight as Barcia was about to negotiate the final turn and possibly put The Dunge a lap down (disqualifying him from the race) was the most intense Moto moment I've ever witnessed.

Dont forget the airshock that broke on the gate right before the start!

One of my absolute favourite moto photos. Manages to capture all the emotion of the moment and his mom yelling him away is pure badass!

An historic moment in moto. Had he have won the title that year it would be even more well known I think.

Miss the moto inside the outdoors so much! Fuel TV channel 618, I was in 5th grade and got off the bus at 3:50 everyday and turned my 10 minute walk into a 5 minute run to watch it every Wednesday at 4:00, then I waited for my dad to get home at 5 pm so he could watch me ride until the sun went down. Those were the days. Thankful I had someone like Dungey to look up to as a kid, Still seems like one of the most genuine and nicest dudes in the motocross scene.

And he still managed to finish 3rd overall that day by going 1-7. Amazing ride.

Truly one of the best to ever ride a dirt bike.

I had to look it up to see and I was amazed he was able to pull that off. I mean Alessi got 6th the second moto so there was some serious talent out there

Between this incident and the gas issue at Texas, I think you can easily argue these cost him the outdoor title.

Anyone remember the story of when Ryan was still not very well known as an amateur and he went up to DeCoster and said something like "Hey my names Ryan Dungey and I just wanted to say I look forward to riding for you some day."

Running out of gas at Texas cost him the title IMO.

So bad ass. I remember the broadcast being delayed, and they were still talking about riders being on the parade lap when the gate had dropped.

That’s if you rule out Reed after the chadapult cost him the title......

2011 was such a good year for racing between RV, Dunge and Reed (first half of the season). SX was also an all timer that year.

It was a fun day at MX338. I was able to capture this photo of Dungey entering the track.

What caused it? Recreational riders bitching about carbs/jetting and demanding EFI.

What solved it? Dungey's dad standing there looking over the mechanics shoulders.

Awesome pic! Funny thing is I’m in that photo haha. I’ll never forget that day. My wife, my cousins, and myself (white hat... omg I look like such a Kyle there haha) were watching them fix the bike and when they got it running started sprinting down the hill which you can see in that video. So cool to be right there when he took off. I get goosebumps to this day reliving that moment. Even cooler because my wife is and always will be a Dungey mega fan.
