Dungey and Cairoli in MXoN - Respect

Edited Date/Time 9/18/2013 8:16pm
Villopoto and Reed have always done well at this race, but they sure have missed a lot due to injury or changing teams.

Villopoto raced in just four in 8 years. He raced in 2006, 2007, 2008, then missed 2009, and 2010, rode in 2011 and missed 2012 and 2013.

Chad raced in just five from 13 years. He raced in 2000, 2001, missed 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, raced in 2007, missed 2008, raced 2009, missed 2010, raced 2011 and missed 2012.

Same with Stewart, he has only ridden 2006, and 2008.

Then you look at riders like Dungey and Cairoli. Dungey raced 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and will race this year. Five from five. well done Mr Dungey!!

Cairoli has raced every single year for 10 years. 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Respect to those guys.

Cairoli has raced this event no matter what, injuries, team changes, death of his mother just before France in 2011.

Reed raced in 2008, but Cairoli did not. He was out with a knee injury.

The big thing for Cairoli is he doesnt really have a chance at a good overall team position in most of the years, and still he'd racing no matter what (even this year he has an injury that he will take care of in the off season and still he's not skipping the race)

and still people call him a pussy for not coming to the US and racing there... good job

Racing after the death of his mother, plus he had an injury really says how much this guy loves his racing. He is as tough as anyone in the sport, Villopoto included.

I understand where y'all are coming from.. I understand RV needing to be ready for what he is paid to do. But the selfish part of me is, how could you not only want to represent your country? So few people in life have the skill set to represent their country at anything and it just seems like it would be the highest honor to do so especially when you are widely considered the best! To each his own I guess.

Either way I'm still a huge RV fan and RD also for that matter!!!

Calling AC a pussy for sticking with the GP's is just ignorance. Guess Dunge and Villo are pussies too for not going over to Europe

Do have a lot more respect for Dungey because of his RC like attitude to this event. Thanks Mr De Coster for keeping those young American riders well informed.

How many has Stewert turned down? Not as many as he has not been invited to. Lets not make it look like he has been invited only to say no all those years.

I can only think of 1 or 2 and it was injury related or bike changing related. The rest of the time, no invite.

Edit: I forgot about the earley years. Maybe it has been more than I thought.

Not but that is a bad thing. He crashed often in the 2006 and 2008 events. Those slippery tracks in Europe never did agree with him. Although in saying that his 1-2-2-23 scores were not bad.

I went back and started watching some old MXdN races, and Leok was very impressive. He was as good in 2005 as he was in 2012!

I don't have the other 3 years Dave mentioned he rode, but my guess is he did ok in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
