Seen on Twitter today that Dubai Police are now using “Hovering Motorbikes”. The officer in the picture is using some Leatt and Fox brand gear. Here is the CNN article: https://cnn.it/2DvnTMb

The one last year was white and green. Totally useless in my opinion.

I much prefer these.

When you’re sitting on all that oil.
Dubai has plenty of that
Yet they still use slave labor.

What happens when a rotor breaks and you get sliced up?

Can you imagine the carnage when used for crowd control?
I'm curious if they're officers get paid more than $18 per hour and don't have to work two part time shifts in 2 departments to get by.

I'm glad to see that the U.S. isn't the only country where public employees feel free to buy themselves expensive toys.

This is a perfect example of engineers using new technology to create something completely insane. About as useless as a nuclear hand grenade.

That gives new meaning to the term "cut off"

These will become main stream and Glenn Coldenhoff will win a one-off race thus solidifying the Euro's as the fastest hovering motorbike riders on the earth.

History shows that most expressed a similar attitude when the Wright brothers made their first flight. "Why would a powered flying machine ever be useful? At the most, a dangerous recreational vehicle..."

My first thought exactly!! Can you not get the same amount of lift with some sort of protection? I've never wanted to ride on top of a blender before

You can easily get the same lift while running prop guards, the only reason not to is to save a bit of weight. However, running without, I wouldn't want within 100 feet of that f'n thing...... LOL

I probably should have worded my response differently. I am in no way against technological advances. But there is often the urge to rush from experimental to production without due diligence. Investor fatigue and demand for ROI often leads to some bad decisions. This hover thingy looks cool as Hell but anyone with half a brain can see it's a danger to the rider and anyone unlucky enough to get near it. As others have said...it's flaws could be easily remedied.

Funny technology anecdote. Late 60's I bought a box of random crap at an estate sale. In it was a hot dog cooking machine , brand new in original package. It had 8 sharp prongs, 4 on each side. You skewered one end of the dog on a prong and bowed it over and skewered the other end. Plug it in and Mr. Electricity cooked your wiener in a flash. WRONG...the instant the juice hit it blew those little doggys into a gazillion pieces. I gotta wonder how many people blew off their fingers cause they had it plugged in when they tried to load a dog.

Put the props above the pilot, give them a little bit of enclosure, and that'd be a fantastic machine. It'd get you places that you would almost not be able to get to with anything else. Can you imagine how it'd be getting medical help into the back country if a hiker needs medical attention? Much better than a standard helo, I'd imagine, and need very little space to sit down. Just about any old fire road should do. You could probably even engineer one with a gurney station below it as a rescue type of machine if you had enough power.

This unit itself might not be practical, but with just a few tweaks and changes this could be something that really could be some lifesaving equipment in the not-too-distant future.
