The line between dual sport and motocross/off road models is getting smaller and smaller and I couldn't be happier. The 2017 EXC-F and FE lines have seriously got me excited to buy a bike. For my money the 500 is the way to go but they are now offering a 250, 350, 450 as well as the 500 in dual sport models in all 50 states... Let the fun begin

I have no association with these companies just happy to see some more options coming for all of us.

I have had 3 KTM dual sports in the past
'07 EXC 525
'09 EXC 530

'14 EXC 500 (still have)

I have my name on the '17 EXC 500, I can't wait. I talked to a couple of the guys that tested them all and they confirmed it is an even better bike than the current model.

The new Husky dual sports look real nice. Although I am partial to my carbureted dual sport:

I ride 90% trail and 10% road. So I went with the 350.

The 501 is all new for 2017 as well. I bet the 2016 will have some great deals out there shortly. Either way you can't go wrong.

Really love my 350 EXCF, especially after getting the efi tuned and fitting an exhaust. Wish I had the coin for a 17 model, god damn they look good

I had an atk 605 that was an awesome off road machine but I was using it a lot to put on a trailer with heavy equipment so I would have a way home.

One 60 mile ride on the interstate from charlotte and I bought a klr.
Sure they are a bit heavy for off road, but so much better on the road.

Dream bike is one of the BMW 1200 dual sports. Man, those things are just awesome.

I am going to buy a powerball ticket and cross my fingers.

We haven't seen the new '17 release yet from Beta, but they were over $1k less last year than the Austrian choices. With performance and options (BYOB ) equal to or better than KTM/ Husky there or other legitimate choices. It is a great time to be a consumer!

2016 Beta 500 RS
Couldn't agree more. I came close a few months ago to pulling the trigger on a 2016 500rs. They are gorgeous and I have heard good things about the newer Sachs suspension. Parts availability is my only hangout. Even the semi local dealers gave me a longer lead time on parts than I was comfortable with. Kind of a bummer as I really want to ride one of those bad boys.

Parts is no different than any other brand, better than most. Dealers don't stock parts anyway...

I have needed 0 parts or warranty the 1st year.

It's how most of the rest of the World, gets their bikes - rego is important to get real sales in the vast majority of markets.

Of course, the majority of us, are 'criminals', and ride with most of the stuff having fallen off....... Though, in my case, my 500 has (midget) blinkers , fold away mirrors, horn and full lights on it all of the time - I don't want to give the cops a chance to ping me.

I've read blokes bleating that they shouldn't have to pay for the road stuff now coming on your XC-Ws / EXCs. Well, I'd say KTM might have done a study of costs, and found it cheaper to not have a separate packing / spec'ing of bikes. Sounds bizarre to those that may not know of cost amortization, but that's how things can go.

It's why , when KTM / other manufacturers release whatever tech they have to put into use after Jan 1 2017, for Euro legislation, those 'solutions' will filter to bikes for even "race use only", quicker than many think. Separate specs, can end up being more costly than doing a far higher number to the same . or very close specification. .And heck, those 'solutions'; may even get 2ts (of all sorts) back on the roads in some markets, where they have been missing from for ages

Dare I say it, and this might surprise some, I wouldn't mind a ride on that KTM500...might be a fun bike to take to the hills on the odd occasion. not as though I can't afford another bike in the garage...so why not eh? I will pop into the local KTM dealership on Monday and see what we can do :-)

I had an 07 450exc. Great bike, so versatile. I'm surprised I was able to keep my drivers license during those years of ownership.
I even moto'd it a few times on a pretty tame Saturday night track and was competitive.
Did a handful of hare scrambles too. You don't have to do the "whoo whoo!" when you come up on a slower rider, beep the horn a couple times and you can see the WTF reaction as they pull out of the way. lol
Great for exploring all those places you see in your area that aren't worth hauling a dirt only bike to.
I'm in the market for another but trying to decide if I should wait for the 2017 or just get the proven 2016 will all of the knowledge base out there.

Not sure if this is considered a dual sport but it looks pretty cool to me:

I have a 2014 500 exc. Its a great bike. I can ride the trails and rip just as hard as I used to on a MX bike, then ride back home. Honestly the only down side to the bike is what you want to do with tires. DOT knobbies dont have amazing grip in the dirt and if you throw a true off road tire on it you'll burn it up on the road riding to the trails. I've stuck with DOT knobbies and I'm getting about 700 miles of 80/20 off road/on road riding out of my rears. Im no A class rider but the bike can handle everything I want to do and way more I'm sure. I was eagerly awaiting the 2017 but it doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade for me to actually ditch my 2014. But that this point another EXC (or husky 501S) is the only thing I would trade it for.

The 14's are all right too. Smile

It was a tough decision between the Husky FE501 and the Beta 500RS. If I were to do it again, I'd probably go with the Beta just for the BYOB program.

Oh man those are some beautiful machines you guys have, would luv to have a 500.

I'm still riding ol' Betsy--2002 520 EXC.

I have five motorcycles and can only spread the love (dough) so far.

So a new dual sport bike is out of the question in the immediate future but my KTM has taken me to some amazing places so I can't complain too much...

After a long day in the saddle the local Brothel is always a welcome sight. Smile

"Dealers don't stock parts anyway..." Truer words have never been spoken. It infuriates me when even a basic part like a common clutch or throttle cable is the typical "We can order that for you"

Oh Yea? Support the local dealer you say?

Hmmm I can also order it myself too....now I get a not so common part but my old parts manager (circa 2002) would've shot us in the head if we didnt stock at least 1 of each OEM letter piston i.e. A, B, C, D. for any line we carried and at the shop I worked at we had pretty much all of them (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki) ..... One time a few years ago I strolled into a Honda only dealer and had to order a current gen (at the time) CRF Oil Filter and Rear Fender...The fender I can ever so slightly (.001%) agree on but the oil filter order left me speechless.

I've always wanted a 350 EXC-F, but 2,500-mile oil change intervals and valve checks every 26,000 miles won me over. Plus, this thing is pretty dialed nowadays.
