Drone footage

Loved these shots at the previous rounds. But I felt like we watched 4 motos from a birds eye view. Such a great track and we had to watch it from 50’ up. Just when we think they resolve the broadcast issues, they throw another wrench in it.

Very much agree. The drone doesn’t show how awesome these tracks are.

Its the same for me on staying with a rider too long if its not the lead battle. Keep it moving. Its a neat feature in small doses.

I was pretty vocal on how much I hated the drone footage last year, But I had also said it would get better- and it has. A lot of those drone shots from these rounds are outstanding. There was one in particular of, I think, Tomac and Kenny from Colorado and it was so great to see the different line choices. Really well done!

Don't get wrong- after the race I'll watch the RAW footage all day, but the drone stuff is getting very good for the reporting aspect.

I thought the coverage was great and the drone offered a cool variance. I don't feel it was overused and in some cases gave a great perspective of riders losing or making up time.

It’s a great addiction, don’t get me wrong. It really shows the different line choices and is great for battles. I just feel like they used to a lot more and more frequently this round vs. the others. I might be the only one, but I think a little indicator above the riders, their number or whatever would help, mostly when they’re heading into heavy lap traffic.

It’s a cool angle sometimes but the broadcast team has been too reliant on it. I prefer the cameras on the scissor lifts for the most part.

I like the drone footage and feel the angles are much improved from last year. I agree it might have been slightly overused this weekend but it's great seeing all the different line choices and corner speed in different ruts.

Nice addition, staring to over use IMO. I was saying this to myself while watching. Also said to myself what others have said, “who am i watching” Have to wait until the 250/450 Raw footage to see the actual track and what the riders look like.

The drone footage looks like they're using a camera from the 90's. It blows.

The feature could be so cool if they improved the clarity. It's so bad that much of the time, you couldn't tell who was who.

I watch on my iPad and usually don't even pay attention to the drone footage inside the battle box split screen because it's so tiny. I can't imagine what it'd be like if I was out somewhere and wanted to watch on my phone.

I dig it, but I want some on the ground, close up shots that show the athleticism of the riders.

Little too much drone and not enough ground. Every top rider should also have an on-board camera that also displays heart rate, mph, position and bung hole monitoring. It's 2022 for Christ sakes.

Doesn't help with a bigger tv...TV.... I run a 65 and when they go split screen each screen may be 12 inches.... probably less.... they could split screen and have it big enough to see... but they don't do it that way...

On the drone...the drone shots were ok... but they need to keep the freakn drone out of none drone shots.... seeing it rocket across the screen looks like a fly just flew across my man cave... not cool....

I like it to an extent. The right mixture of it is cool but don't linger too long. My biggest frustration is when they cut to the "battle box" and you can't figure out what your watching in either. I get that it is another advertising mechanism but my biggest pet peave is when they go split screen in any way shape or form. Since I'm complaining how about making the background transparent on the running order over on the left as well. It seems that frequently we see a rider blocked out of the frame by that thing.

edit: I'd like to see some of the camera work from the raw videos worked into the production as well.

The shot coming out of the woods back section going uphill was great. Sense of speed and you could hear the bikes ripping. When they’re coming towards the camera go by it and away from it all in the same smooth shot close enough to hear and see. I like that angle it just changes the whole broadcast so much better in my opinion. Too far away too long takes away the sound and speed.

Agree 100%. Tell me that feel and sound doesnt change the whole broadcast. Atmosphere is huge for sports.

I thought the drone footage of battles around the track were awesome, how they were just one continuous shot around the entirety of the track. Really helped to show which lines were faster, and how huge that quad-table (?) was.

Sure, you can’t really read their number plates at times, but if you’re following the racing it’s really not hard to tell who’s who. And you’ve got the leaderboard on the side of the screen, as long as it’s accurate that is, lol.

They couldn’t get as close this weekend because of how much forestry was around that track. Don’t want to risk it flirting too close to the tree line. I don’t blame them. I still like it. Overall it’s been way better this year.

I agree, too. There’s that sense of sound and speed of being there I wish translated better on TV.

I really like the drone footage. I don’t want to watch the whole race from that POV but seeing the track and riders from overhead shows you more than just the lap times tell you. It’s interesting to me to see the subtle differences in line selection and watch the gap yo-yo where one rider makes up or looses even just a bike length.

I felt quite the opposite.
Shows them in a way whe never get to see them and gave a very interesting view of the different lines.
Really brings something new!
And most of the shooting was still being done from ground level anyway...

Agreed 100%, Seeing the amount of lines these guys have to process, and make the right choice through shows why they are the best of the best.

If only we knew of a super sick drone pilot with superior acrobatic skills able to get really close to the riders, and I mean reeeally close....
Too soon?
