Drone Cam

Was excited to see them using a drone cam this weekend for love racing coverage! Having them use it for the track preview was so much better than the 3D generated version with the arrow.

However, with how small and nimble they are, I wish they would’ve used those advantages and gotten closer shots rather than a zoomed out, very far away shot like a helicopter.

Thoughts?

Pretty much agree 100%. I'm not sure if it was liability issues keeping them from coming down close, but you would think there would be an area without spectators around it where they could get a great close up run to the track, like the SXS along the Daytona whoops

It has to be a liability issue. I love the idea but if they have to fly that high off the ground then it is kind of useless. If they want to improve the broadcast they should include some shots like the raw videos that come out mid week. That is some damn good compelling video!

It was all right looked like the video feed from it got a little choppy here n there.
Was probably just over view because the driver of the drone sucked. Maybe get one of those drone racer guys. Be cool if they could get video of them following the riders.

But the last thing we need is a drone dropping onto a rider or track.

I mean.... they cab fly even higher and still get close up shots... but that would take a bigger lens and a bit of dialing in by the TV crew

I made the same comment. They'll get it right. They need to come in lower, then widen the FOV just a hair and it'll be perfect. They had it working real well at Red Bud I think it was.

I was hoping they would fly it a little above and behind the pack from the gate drop into the first turn. Would be a cool perspective.

Not a fan of the camera on the right side of the gate for the start. It would be better if it was shot from the middle of the first turn so you can see the pack coming toward you. A drone would work well for this perspective and would keep a camera person out of harms way.

The drone footage from Loretta Lynn's was infinitely better. Isn't it the same production company?

I agree the drone, done right, adds a ton to the broadcast.

If they get it right someday it will be alright for a couple seconds per lap. Moto does not look impressive filmed from above. The drone makes the riders look like ants on tv. Compare DF14 quad shots.....drone vs DV's instagram shot from the side of the track. As others have said a follow drone 6ft off the ground behind a rider would be awesome even if its just a hot lap to show the track before the race.

It was grainy and choppy, way too high. Not a fan.

This could be great if they get in a little closer, need a good pilot at the controls and they are very safe, probably just have to get the riders used to it and it could fly right next if they wanted to, watching DF hit that quad was sweet and the guy's calling the race never even mentioned it, that Drone can run the Pace!!

Might be kind of cool to see them run different sections of the track with it between motos.

I’m glad they are trying stuff, same with the Savatgy cam. Continuous improvement is a good goal
