Has anyone added additional openings on the right side of the air box to gain a bit more power/throttle response?
Seems the only opening on the left side isn’t enough?
Thx!

The stock opening is pretty open. You can trim off some of the flange that goes into the airbox and maybe get a little more.

Try the No toil super flo air filter kit. It makes the bike more responsive.

Just know the bolt that comes with it is too long and won’t fully seal the air filter unless they’ve updated it from the last two I had

Did it help? Did you notice more intake noise?

no I didnt notice anymore noise that I remember. Yes it ran better, but I also had a FMF 4.1 slipon and the kawi tuner so I could change the mapping a little.

Simply put, More air for the intake gives you better response/power gains. One of the reasons the Yamaha air box is up in front of the bike.

I was thinking this when I opened this topic.

I spent the last two days riding extremely deep, wet desert tracks. 200 lb. A rider on a 21' KX450 with pipe/fuel/mapping.

I couldn't believe how well that bike plowed through the deep stuff and the power was just endless. I am blown away with how well these bikes put the power down.

No holes cut for me, I prefer a cleaner filter.

The left side number plate already has a giant hole. How much more air do you need.

The OP was just asking how to do it and if anyone had, not if he should do it.

Right!

As long as the openingfor the air box is bigger than the exhaust exit, no more is needed!

You should probably do some research on why intake valves are bigger than exhaust valves before making such a statement.
