One of the racers announced at the awards that he is OK. No doubt beaten up but he said he was OK.

Also congrats to Vitard PFitzG38 for his overall in 50C.

I would congratulate him too, but there's no way I'm going to believe anyone from this board actually races. Tongue

Must have gotten run over or slammed into the side of a tree?

Either way, best of luck to Doug and his wife.

I was standing about thirty feet (next to a girl I believe was his daughter) from Dr. D's crash at Mammoth...it was brutal. Amazed that he got off with "only" a bunch of broken ribs. The crash was in the second 40A moto. First moto Doug got the holeshot...as usual...but Mercier was right behind him. Mercier put heavy pressure on for first half of the race, but Doug didn't look like he made a single mistake and slowly pulled away and won. Second moto almost a repeat performance. Mercier right on Doug's tail for several laps, but Doug slowly pulling away. For those of your familiar with the Mammoth track you'll know the exact section he crashed in...usually a very simple section....he came over the finish line jump perfectly, made the sweeping right, accelerated probably in fourth gear, hit a simple little jump but over jumped it a little probably still in fourth and hauling, hit some small kickers as he was grabbing the front brake setting up for the right hand turn, and was slammed VIOLENTLY to the ground. The sound was sickening. Problem was that it"s a little off camber so when he went over the side of the bike he was slammed into the up slope and couldn't roll. One second one the bike and hauling, next second slammed, next second complete stop. If he could have been ejected and rolled he would have been much safer...if that makes any sense. Amazingly Doug pulled himself about two feet to be behind his bike so he wouldn't be exposed. Good thinking. Love see this guy ride, especially at Mammoth. He's amazing. All weekend long I didn't see even a single bobble from him, except this one. Sucks. Get well soon Dr. Dr.

Just got an update...
All the Ribs on the Left are broken: Front & Rear (a Flailed Chest). On the Right he has 2 broken Ribs.

Broken Left Collar-Bone.

He got outta bed TWICE today: He actually stood beside his bed once & later he WALKED down the hall...he's such a smart-ass!
So, the Doc's are impressed & are considering letting him go down to "Sea Level" soon.
They found a C7 fracture that had them worried at first, then they decided it was an old injury.

He'll keep impressing them. He'll want to go home, go to work, hang with his kids...

I'm Stoked.

Best wishes to a great racer and engineer. The guy is an animal and will back in short order because it is in his blood and he is gifted on a motorcycle.

I've been racing against Doug for a while and he runs it old school....No chest pro on a fast, marblie, hard base track is a little sketchy. This crash will probably add a little more gear to his kit, hate to see someone learn the hard way.

I know it feels better as a ride to run it without the chest pro, the consequences can be heavy...

Get well Dubach, November will be here before you know it!

As a friend of Doug's & a "Vet" (Senior!) that's had a Big Crash in the last few years (3 surgeries/10 mon. ReHab) AND that ALSO has a 6 y/o daughter...?

Well, I'll let ya in on a little secret: accidents happen EVERY DAY & EVERYWHERE. Sure, racing is dangerous; but, it's who we are & what we do. Also, I agree about the gear. I don't think Doug will...but...we'll work on that. Gina married a Racer & Factory Test-Rider. You know what? I don't hear her complaining. Furthermore, Doug is a helluva dad & he's missed more than a few "Moto-Events" these last few years to go be with his kids...instead. He may make his own decision about riding...from here on out...

That really has Nothing to do with what we were attempting to discuss...as Racers, Riders, Freinds & Enthusiasts...here. At the same time I TOO have some of these thoughts and "wonders"; because, I'm damn near the exact same age as Doug & I hit the ground like this a coupl'a years ago...

But...there's a Time & a Place for everything.

This is the Time for Positive thoughts & the Place to show some Support for an Honest to God "Contributor" to our sport & lifestyle.

Good points about keeping it positive. Just wanted to add that although I don't know Doug personally, in the last two years at Mammoth he has taken the time to re-program three Yamahas for me and two buddies, without any charge, and with a big smile on his face...the bikes ran great by the way. He talked with us like we were friends he had known for years. I'm an old dude, not some star struck kid, but damn it was so cool of him to take time out his race day to help us out and give some words of encouragement. Get well soon, Dr. D

Get well soon, Doug.

A decision on whether to ride or race is up to the rider.

Yup.

That's the Doug we all know.

I hope others can get a glimpse of this and know that we want him Back at the Track!

Note: I see this thread has created some VERY positive change.

Thank you to the "changers".

I saw it from a distance, sitting on the "Mammoth freeway" section. It was a scary thing to see for anyone, especially if you know him personally. Rob E. made a great speech on the podium later that day regarding Doug.....Doug you are in all of our thoughts, and the best of wishes go out to you for a speedy recovery!!!!

Every time I go through a corner rut, or am revving at the starting gate I think of you.......!!!!

Hope to see you back here soon. I still need to buy a 2 stroke pipe!
