Or does the brand you like help determine the rider you like?

I am a Kawasaki fan. Been one since 1983. Throughout the years I liked Jeff Ward,Emig,Rc,Stew.Rv most because they were great riders.
But some of them riding in alpinestars or Thor gear pro circuit etc etc led me to buy those brands.

Who is your favorite and what have they influenced you to buy? Like Stewart -Suzuki or seven red bull Oakley pretty much anything related.

As a kid, McGrath made me believe Fox was the only moto brand that mattered

Now that I'm 33... I think my purchasing habits are based more around supporting the companies that support/sponser our sport. For example, if I'm in the market for side steps for my truck, I'd only look at NFab. When it comes to dog food, my dog eats Blue Buffalo.

Not as much as Beyonce and JZ influence me to vote for the opposition. Too soon?

I suppose when I was a little kid I looked up to RJ and other team Honda riders. But I think I ran Honda's more so because we came over from quad racing (late 80's, I was 7 so don't judge haha) and my brother had help from Honda. Honda and Yamaha were always my first choices when I was at my best, fading more to Yamaha only. Now I Kawi's mainly.

The riders don't really influence me other than what is the trend.

I too loved Kawasaki growing up just as you did. I only liked that team and their riders. Nowadays, I like just about every brand, gear, riders and teams. They are all good.

But when it comes to what I purchase, I'm not influenced other than I kind of have a goal that I buy a different gear brand every time and have spent time on multiple brand bikes. Currently KX450 and YZ125.

Not so much to buy or brands, but riders.... I was fucking depressed in 2006-2008... 2001-05 were good. 2009-12 were great. 13 can suckadick. 14 was a comeback.

Like many Aussies I've lived for the moments when Chad defied the odds, you guys have no idea how bush league mx is down here, he's a fucking hero.

We're all hoping Hunter Lawrence is the same again, he definitely could be.

I'm more apt to buy stuff from sponsors of local riders where I live. Bike brands not so much but like Jimmy Johns yep, some other sponsors that aren't directly Moto related yea I'll buy from them to support. If there is a small dealer local who sponsors some local pros, and show up at the races with a tent or a box truck in the series I ride in that will usually sway me to stop in and buy parts and accessories maybe even a bike. That type of marketing works the best for our area, pretty big and tight knit Moto community.

As I get older I notice it has way less effect on me, when I first started racing though I had to have a 14 on my xr80 and the sick no fear fear just like k dub and even modeled (tried to ) a lot of my technique based off of his

With endemic sponsors (industry), not so much. I buy what works and what fits. Perfect example- Big fan of K-Dub but can't stand Shoei helmets because they don't fit me well.

Non-endemic (outside the industry) I like to support those brands that support the sport. (Exception being energy drinks...I don't touch the stuff.)

Red Bull is really the only thing that influenced me. I really like the Red Bull lids and hats etc. They also organise cool events and create amazing videos.. Outside of that I don't buy who or what supports who, I just buy what I like best.

Riding wise, Pourcel influenced me with the body protector over jersey.

In the early 90's I had Larocco's signature helmet. I was maybe 15 at the time, and I did feel extra badass racing in it. Fast like Mike!

Fan of Reed, JMart and Cooper and I ride a Yamaha. I wouldn't say any of them influenced me to jump from KTM to Yam but reading and experiencing the bottom end difference between the two is what sold me to switch.

I don't have a favorite rider, but I've also never been influenced by one rider to purchase their sponsors product. I buy what I like for the product, not who uses it.

I do tend to cheer for a couple manufacturers, but that doesn't mean I like all riders on those bikes and dislike the riders on the other bikes. It's a little bit of everything that sways my position in those regards.

Nope, I'm my own person, flaws and all. I do know that I don't want to hear their politics!! A few are doing their brand an injustice through social media. But a bike purchase to me is about family financial timing and the bikes features for ME, not an MX superhero.

Favourite riders - Bob Hannah (entertaining, but not a real nice person). I met Broc Glover at the MEC 2016, he seemed nice. Hannah throws Glover under the bus to this day, I find it strange. But I would faint if I met Hannah!
Damon Bradshaw - he was just f'ing cool.
James Stewart - all about the whoops speed and the scrub.

Do I appreciate their abilities on a dirt bike, damn right.

I'd have to agree with the post above only I love the Monster brand. I'm addicted to their damn drink, and their pit parties.

Also, I do love that Ryan Dungey is the "face" of MX. He is good for the kids and the sport.

I started on a Suzuki RM 125 in 1980 so of course I loved The Bomber Barnett.

I admire MC not only as a rider but a good human being (as far as I can tell with my limited interactions with him)

I get a kick out of Hannah

I bleed orange now so of course I pull the the Red Bull KTM guys.

So yeah...I'm influenced.

Not really, I like all the Monster Energy Kawi guys but actually think the Monster energy drink itself is nasty. I like drinking Rockstars occasionally. I ride a Suzuki dual sport but plan on getting a yz125 over say a kx125 or even a rm125.

Like many Aussies I've lived for the moments when Chad defied the odds, you guys have no idea how bush league mx is down here, he's a fucking hero.

A-fking-men! I still randomly yell out "CHAD REEEEED!!!" a la Ralph Shaheen.

+ That new YZ250 they've buily for him for Aus-X is so tasty. Reedy on a Yamaha smoker is just so right.

I have a YZ125 and YZ450F. Have always loved Yamaha, including having several R1s. Was on Hondas and Yamahas as a kid.

People can say whatever they like, but for me I do get a little bit warm and fuzzy when my favourites are on "my" brand: Reed, Webb, Barcia previously and Rossi.

I bought reed replica shift gear because I thought it looked good on Chad when he was racing. When moto 7 came out I bought the shift gear Kris Foster was wearing in Cainville. I guess I'm influenced by riders, but not simply because I like the rider. For example, I like Tomac, but I would never buy alpinestars gear unless they change everything about it.

i wonder if having a good (but nog great) rider in MXGP leads to increased sales in the riders country. So more Suzuki sales in Switzerland with Seewer, or more Yamaha's in Belgium due to van Horebeek.

can confirm this guy is full homo for reed. Cant watch the supercross at his house as it gets weird real quick.

But I'm the same, there is a generation of guys like myself in our early 30's in Aus, Reed did what we all wanted to do but just didn't have a shred of the talent he does. He took on the world, landed a hot chick and a factory Yami ride. That's the dream right there bro's.

Without a doubt McGrath heavily influenced me to be a life long Honda guy and wear Fox.

I used to love Alpinestars but then I got some SG12's and they are pretty damn nice.

I do try and buy products that support MX when possible. Unfortunately our sport is heavily invested in its self, not that many outside products vs other sports.
