Looks like they will be having a new helmet coming out soon. I've seen AFX do this in the past and actually bought one. It was pretty nice for the price.

I think he's saying that since shoei sold their helmet design to AFX, they must have a new design on the horizon.

When did AFX become the leader in helmet design? And how does this relate to Shoei? And when did Shoei "sell" their helmet design to AFX?

I'm all ears.Smile

Shoei needs to update a bit. Their quality is great but they still have a poly shell, are pretty heavy... just kind of old school compared to what else is out there for that price

Shoei usually sells the old patent or design when they drop a new design. AFX has been know to buy such designs and make copies. However not sure when it happened or why or how.

I especially love the "google" strap designed into the helmet

I've heard from a few people that Shoei will have a new dirt helmet soon. I believe this fall.

The ridges aren't nearly as sharp, but the mouth insert and rubber around the eyeport certainly look like a shoei.

And shoei definetly isn't a poly shell. I've gashed through all layers of the paint on mine. They use and aim composite which is they're fancy way of saying fiberglass

Still a super hard shell which, I think were learning, isnt as good as if the shell is softer and deforms more

I hope they have a new one soon. For me the fit of the shoei is better than anything else but I feel the tech is getting a little old. Then again I'll have 5 shoei helmets that will then be the "old" style.

I don't like shoei paint designs

The vents are slightly different, but that is about 99% the exact same. Sucks too. I was about to send this one off to get painted.

Actually the shells are a composite of fiberglass, dynema and organic fibers. They come in at 3.3oz. Pretty light for a Snell helmet. The only thing lighter right now is maybe the Suomy or Leatt neither of which are Snell.

How do y'all come up with this stuff? AFX has nothing to do with shoei except for copying their ridges...

Whats funny is how other helmet companies try to replicate the Ridge's from shoei but cant condense the shell the same way shoei does, therefore destroying the distribution of the impact. Shoei is the only company with any ridges that maintains the same thickness of its shell even when compressing all the material (Six different components) into its shape...A hand built helmet is a beautiful thing, that AFX is not that.

In the off road helmet design and testing circles there are whispers of a new category called the "TECH" helmet. Its not an official term but one used to describe helmets that offer additional protections using new technologies. ie. 6D, Bell Flex with their suspension concept that helps with the deceleration of low to mid speed impacts from various directions. Curios to see what Shoei has in store if what you guys say is true about them coming out with a new helmet. If they go the way of other helmet brands using the MIPS system I am afraid that's just an easy way to fool people into thinking they are purchasing a "TECH" helmet when in reality they are not.

That helmet from AFX is an open mold from the company Strategic in China. Its not an Arai shell. Scott Sports also used that same helmet mold for their 350 helmet. They are one of the few, possibly only companies that make the "cone head" EPS liner. Other MX brands have used that same shell in the past.

That afx looks nothing like the shoei to me. Maybe the construction techniques in the Shell are similar. I don't know.

Either way, I bet shoei is hurting because they have gotten a lot more competition in the high end helmet market recently with 6d, bell, leatt etc. My local shop said that they weren't selling and needed to get them moving. So i Picked this one up at a discount. Love it.

The Shoei VF-X is lighter the the Bell Carbon Flex.... i have both and don't really have a preference. They are one of the lightest helmets on the market which goes to show how far ahead of their time they where/are.
