that Tomac wasn't a threat to his points lead and maybe even the title since Tomac finished last the week before?

Still was probably a huge amount of difference in money for the win.

No, I think he realized he couldn't keep tomacs pace the whole race and backed off hoping Eli would eat it ( he almost did too)

I don't care what Kenny said he really really wanted to win that race and so did Eli. Kenny just wasn't quite ready to weed himself for it.

I'm sure Kroc's camp has their eye on the big prize and he gets lots of "advice"

Of course he wanted to win but at some point you realize you don't have it or are going to wad if you keep trying to get it. Isn't that something everyone on this board has experienced?

That thought no doubt eased the pain of getting caught, passed, and dropped. Remember the way he raced Dungey in Utah, riding on the edge and almost wrecking, while he only need to finish in the top 10 or so. Makes me think he wants to win in the moment with championship second.

Roczen will more than likely get more wins and top finishes. Tomac is super fast but I personally don't think he will keep it together for the full sx season. Hopefully he makes it through injury free.

It's way to early to be in protecting points mode...Roczen wanted to win...he just wasn't fast enough Saturday night.

No shame in getting beat by Tomac, though.

Tomac has been his rival since 2013 250's. So I doubt he was very happy about getting passed and dropped. I just think he couldn't run the pace without risking it for the biscuit and he wasn't willing to do that. So he backed it down and took 2nd.

Thinking back to Hannah, Howerton, Barnett and guys of that era and the words "riding for points" makes me laugh. Does anyone really think Roger D. thinks Dungey is doing the right thing and finishing in third waiting for the others to run into problems or injuries? These guys ride to win, to think different is just making excuses for a lousy finish. Ego and mind games are as much a part of the sport at this level as anything else. Even the guys you think are quiet and mild mannered are killers when the gate drops.

Probably, but in the heat of the moment I doubt that it mattered. I think that Tomac was just faster and Roczen realized that.

It was a smart ride. I think once Tomac passed him and gapped him, he knew he had two choices: a)Ride above his comfort level and try to chase Eli down, or b)Settle for second behind a rider who was 20+ points behind him. Choice seems simple to me.

Yes. 100% so.

Ken, with two awesome main event starts probably thinks his good starts will continue and the Elis eractic, though not quite to the 20 to 1 gap, will continue.

.

Both rode well Sat night.

Championships are won with consistency. ET not a threat just yet... if he closes in on the points then it's a whole different game later in the season.

Bobby... were you sitting down on a bench by the wall outside the industry entrance - exit after the races were over? If so I saw you and should have said hello, my bad...

Cheers!

smart riders know when its another riders day and take 2nd place points.

1st pays 25 points and 2nd pays 22 points .... 20th pays 1 point so KR had a 24 point lead on ET after A1

KR still has a 21 point lead on ET .... 47 to 26

As have many said here; he is thinking smart. Looking at things long-term, he knows that he is going to have to be consistent this year in order to have a chance at the SX title. IMO, a second is better than laid out on the dirt. This is going to be a long season for the racers. Roczen is a smart young man; he knows better. You will see him in the hunt at the end of the season.

Are you sure? I know Kenny has done a few amateur races over here and Eli did the junior MXDN way back then.

This isn't 5 years ago, everyone is going to have at least 1 bad race!

Eli just got his over with early and can easily make up some ground quick if KRs luck turns for the worse over the next few rounds. I would be shocked if anyone pulls top 3 every race this season, and I think Kenny just had reality slap him in the forehead and realize this isn't going to be easy as A1!

If Tomac goes on a 4-5 race winning streak gapping Roczen every time, do you think Roczen will be able to keep his composure?

Think it was a joke, Shaheen made reference to it during the broadcast.

I think that was a bit tongue in cheek by Xracerdone but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I think Roczen is really strapped on cash at the moment. Hopefully he can afford the healing bill this month Dry

Second was a smart move for k roc... But fighting it out for the win would have been smarter... Confidence is a precious thing, ET's win took a big bite out of what k roc had built up...

Of course Roczen is thinking about the championship when racing. I seriously doubt he is out there just twisting it to win individual events.
