They changed it last year and I don't see why. The previous format was fine with me, the should've kept that or remove the LCQ. Making the first five of the heats and first six of the semis go through.

In my opinion, they should start with the 450 heat races, then 250 heats, 450 semis, 250 lcq, 450 lcq, 250 main and lastly the 450 main.

This was how it was done years ago (think Carmichael/Mcgrath era). Personally I like it, lots of racing and more chances to make the main event if you have a mechanical/crash

Yeah i like it, I wish they made the 250's the same format.
I personally like the LCQ, its always entertaining.
It also give riders another chance who have had DNF's or troubles in the heats/Semi's to transfer through.

The way it is now the 450 semis and then the 450 lcq are too close together.

And on the 8th day, God was supposed to create moto format supercross, but it got caught up in a committee amid endless office politics, and there it remains, unfinished and seemingly tabled for eternity. Or at least until someone at Feld wakes up and realizes the tired heat/semi/lcq system tends to result in 2 hours of boredom followed by main events that people actually care about. Also too confusing for new fans IMO. Heat races battles are exciting, but rare and ultimately irrelevant.

It would work better this way but I think they don't because of opening ceremonies. It would take too long to get lined up and I am sure the riders in the opening ceremonies don't want to dork around under the lasers and then have to race right away.

They did that format at A1 when they first re-introduced the semis. Then switched to the current format, with 250s first. I like the idea of 450s first, too. The entire program was more fluid and seemed to have less downtime/dead air than the current format. Whether it did or not, I don't know.

Liked the old format alot better. The heats somehow had more intesity, now it feels like we have 3 LCQ's..

Agreed. Too many races that don't really mean anything. Yes, they are for qualification, but as RV said at last year's A1 when asked about semis coming back, it's basically the same 22 riders regardless.

My vote would be for:

A) Go to MEC format for both classes (3 short main events, qualifying during the day).

-OR-

B ) Go back to 250 qualifying format for both classes (no semis), but put a few championship points on the line for the riders at the front of the heats. Then have 2 shorter mains for both classes.

They should make it harder and take fewer riders each race to qualify. Take 6 from each heat, 4 from each semi and 2 from the lcq. It seems odd to me that the semi and lcq both transfer 4 to the main.

I like the added races, and it gives the guys on the bubble more seat time, which is great. Instead of going out and failing to qualify through the heats and LCQ, the slower guys get an extra 6 laps on the track, which is cool for them.

When the heat races started the climax goes up because you see all the good riders out there. Then the semi's starts and the climax goes down because Average Joe does not care much about the non-top riders. Then the LCQ starts and the climax really really drops because most people (except hardcore fans) really do not care. At this point, most of the people fell asleep and then finally starts the main events.

I think the climax should keep increasing instead of going up and down and finally up ...

Exactly, we see the same riders in the main no matter what, the heats and semis are pointless and usually unexciting since nothing is on the line. With the incessant pursuit of growing the sport (supposedly) I can't believe that format is still being used.

Why would you want less racing?
I wish they'd do the same for the 250fs.

The privateers do not get enough practice time so the factory and factory support guys doing press day and special riding have 30 laps in before they take to the track. The semi will give the sponsors some tv time for guys that wouldn't have gotten it with the old 9 to the main heat race.

Personally I love watching the battles. For the lead, a virtual streetfight over 5th place, in the main, semi's, heats, or LCQ (LCQ's often have the best battles of the entire night).

The more battles, the better!

New (old) format is good. More tight racing. More sponsor and rider exposure. Some epic battles tonight already!
