Interested to see what people think has been the most controversial moment in our sport. The JLaw chronicles obviously come to mind, maybe Emig losing his Kawi deal then coming back and silencing the naysayers in Vegas? Stew's WADA ban? I'm sure there's plenty I can't think of that Vital would be able to unearth. Interested to see what stands out to people.

Just my opinion, the acceptance of the Stewart family...they went through hell for so many years...and then BOOM, James elevated the sport with raw talent and made HISTORY. The Stewart's are great people and well respected.

There's something happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear.

RC threatening to take his bat and ball if they didn’t give him his points back

Not sure that will top the list, but probably in the top 10:

- McGrath leaving Honda
- JS7 and Tickle's ban
- Bradshaw/Matiasevich incidents (the last one being Vegas which probably costs Bradshaw the title in 92)
- Alessi's/Tedesco/Grant
- Fuel gate deciding championship

As far as straight up controversy goes, I think this one will be hard to beat.

What was the story behind RC, how come RC got his points back and Reed didn't, what was the difference there?

Out of interest, what are the back stories with these photos? The pit board at Bob Hannah to let Broc by is classic

|

I wish we could see this format taken seriously, although the incident might not be as controversial as some of the other moments people have brought up in this thread.

Also, I can’t find a video of it, but in 2009 when Stewart and Reed were battling in I believe Salt Lake City SX and Chisholm got lapped and held up Reed to let Stewart by.

Oh and everybody, let’s not forget the controversy and injustice around Glen Helen not getting a national in 2019......

I am very surprised that someone mentioned Falta. as a filthy Euro from CZE i am deeply touched. Lasergate post is fun. laughing I would maybe add Marvin Musquin switching to Red Bull KTM from NGS midseason.

Rex Staten HD and Vic Allan CCM having a punch on at Carlsbad in ‘77 I think. And the two CZ’s is a photo of a Russian T-boning Falta as per other posts in this thread.

And Bob letting “Brock Bye” to win the 125 title in ‘77 over Suzuki’s Danny LaPorte.

Thanks for that, appreciate the info. The photo of Falta getting punted is a serious piece of mx history, glad this stuff was documented so well in an era before digital cameras and total video coverage

emig's one was pretty up there in the late 90's
after winning everything in 97

Not really seeing controversy here.

Let Brock Bye.. Not only because of the sign, but Yamaha also stacked the 125 field with all its big bore riders to try to give Broc some breathing room over LaPorte..

Yeah that pic is getting blown up, framed and put in my garage. Epic Moto moment for sure. I can’t begin to imagine how someone as competitive as Hannah felt.

It reminds me of a painting I saw - it was a frontier family in a wagon in the winter time - deep snow - they were being chased by a pack of wolves - the horses were struggling - the father was in the back of the wagon with their baby high over his head getting ready to throw it at the wolves.

We all sacrifice things in life and it sure as hell is not fair all the time.

The Goats Bad Gas

Looks like they used a 2005 two stroke photo in the article as well. Can't make this stuff up.

What I love about the sign is the misspelling of "by". It's so cool because of the double meaning of "bye". "Let Brock Bye-Bye".

Wouldn't be the same if he'd written "Buy". If he had, Hannah might have been thinking "Let Brock buy? Let Brock buy what? Dinner and drinks? Hmmm... I should go faster"

I have heard guys on podcasts say "when ricky said he wouldn't race" if he didn't get his points back, but am curious to know more about the story. Was this said through Roger, was it hearsay, or did he come right out and say that he was going to stop racing the series? Did RC dispute the findings or did he just know that he had some weight to throw around? This could not have been well received by the rest of the series, but I'd like to know more.

Honda not letting JMB race because he wouldn't "play ball"

RC had the testicular fortitude to stand up to the AMA and fight for justice. No disrespect to Reed, but he didn't fight the AMA on their BS (and he should have IMO).
