I can’t find any archives of the 2017/18 model ktm a on ktm Europe’s site or any articles. Looking at what is listed as a 2018 ktm 450sxf and didn’t know what the difference are. I know some had 4 speed gear boxes, but what else is different? And when did the euro spec bikes start the orange frame? I know in the us it was 2018.

Main thing that is different is the jetting/ECU settings - the EU has all kinds of emissions regulations, and as a general rule, the pump fuel is of a higher quality - especially in the UK.

Not valid for the recent model bikes, but in 2015 when US bikes went to 4CS forks the EU bikes stayed with the WP Closed Cartridge forks but they were unique as they brought them out with small axle feet. Then in 16 i believe they went to 4CS and 17 to the Airfork etc. I think you will find most of the differences are minimal.

By settings i meant suspension valving specs ( shims ) , sometimes different pistons , spacers , shock length , bleed etc..
Even small changes in this area can make a difference you can really feel

16 were the first airforks, the 4CS is only used on enduro models, KTM in EU always has 4 speed, US models have 5 speed - just as the HQV in EU. Shock- and forksettings differ between KTM and HQV and EU/US.

The 2016 US KTM SXF still had 4CS suspensions, the european models had the newer AER48

what about the orange frame? and are the vin the same for the eu models? as in will the 10th digit tell what year the bike is? i know here the orange frame was standard on the 18 model, didnt know if the eu it started in 17 as it seems the us models play catch up to some of the changes like mentioned with the forks

anything negative about the 4 speed vs the 5 speed trans?

The orange frame is seen on the factory edition bikes and the last year of a generation (in all markets). As in 2015, 2018 and probably 2021.
