Update: First Impressions here - https://www.vitalmx.com/product/guide/Bikes,6/Suzuki/RM-Z250,16473#product-reviews/861

I'm in Japan right now for the launch of Suzuki's new 2019 RM-Z250. Just walked out of the presentation room and got this ready: https://www.vitalmx.com/product/guide/Bikes,6/Suzuki/RM-Z250,16473#product-reviews/858

We'll be riding the bike tomorrow, weather permitting.

Bike looks awesome.

It should be the lightest bike of all...lighter even than a 65cc bike with that new rear tyre ? "Additionally, the rear tire is nearly a half-pound (160 kg) lighter than the tire used on the prior RM-Z250."

Just told the family all to go to bed....I need to turn the lights down low and spend some quality time with these new pics.......

I have to admit the bike looks really good. Now lets see how it performs.

Michael, if you’ll be in Tokyo for more than just an airport layover, let me know. I’ll buy you a beer.

This bike looks great! IMO the best looking 250.
There is one thing that bothers me though:

"The engine in this RM-Z250 has a list of improvements, mostly focused at the top end of the machine with a claimed five percent peak horsepower gain."

According to Vital's last year 250 shootout dyno results, a 5% increase in power should put RMZ around 37HP.
It is still a serious disadvantage in comparison to KTM/Husky rated at around 41-42HP.
Quite possible those numbers will be even higher for 2019 KTM and Husqvarna models, as they probably won't take a year off in development.

So how much does it weigh?

|

9/10/2018 4:42 AM

They said how great the 80 engine changes would be in it last "update" and the bike was worse. I hope they got it right this time.

Rm army! Might have to upgrade from my 13

Close to a 2hp increase isn't enough from were they was.

Someone will put it on the podium in SX. Stamp it while your wallet talks to your sprocket bolts about torque specs.

Bike looks great,... hope it doesn't get trashed in forums and magazine's with shootouts like the 450 did. Sorta expecting that to happen though.

The bike looks great, but that blue gas tank is hideous, in my opinion. Am I the only one? Or are there others on here that would prefer it to have a black, aluminum, or even yellow tank?

Yea I’m not feeling the blue tank either but that is an easy fix

The gas tank is black.

The blue is a plastic cover that can be changed out. Acerbis makes a variety of colors.

Good info, thank you.
Do you know if you can just run it with out the plastic cover? Or does it act as a spacer for the bolts that keep the shrouds on?

|

9/10/2018 8:30 AM

You have to run it with the cover.

That’s not a bad idea. Really gives you a bunch of options for different color combos.

36 months 0% financing right now too. Hopefully they have this deal when the bike comes out in the US! Wife said go for it but....I've only ridden a 450.

Bikes looks great, and is good enough stock for 95% riders in the world.

I feel the same way about my carb 09 YZ 250f......I just can't justify a new bike and payment when this old turd is sooooo stinking easy to go as fast as I need to go on!

I hope Suzuki has a good new model year. The models they've been delivering keep getting bashed by all the weekend warriors as "slow".

I read that last years bike was restrict lots in the pipe and that changed yielded a sizeable gain.
I think this bike could move up in the shootout if the suspension settings are good stock.

Has anybody dynoed a 2018 bike with a different Exhaust?
