I wonder how big of an event this is compared to other desert races in the country? By the video it seems like a sizable amount of riders.`

Looking at 2019 results, about 600 did the 100 mile loop, another 400 did the 50 mile loop…a couple hundred minis and peewees.

That’s a HUGE race!

I’d love to give it a go one of these years.

I think it was quite a bit bigger this year.

2 years off for Covid and it was 50th anniversary.

Just navigating the road to the start and ending up in the right spot to get a good start is half the battle.

Have heard it’s more of a party crowd.

And..

For example, my buddy who was racing open B(offroad) was able to get a top 30 at the D100 but wouldn’t be able to do so at a similar terrain off-road race with only 350 racers.

It's hit or miss on how stiff the competition is for sure.

A lot of the top off road guys in the NW aren't "Desert Racers" so they don't show up. Partly due to how dangerous the start is, unless something has changed, they don't tell anyone where it's at so you aren't able to walk it and find a good/safe line. Even if you do know where a good line is, it's tough to be sure you'll end up on it since they parade everyone out behind a pick up and make you line up in order of arrival. Been lots of dudes hurt in the first mile or 2 over the years.

It's an epic race, not National level competition by any means, but still an accomplishment to have a good ride there. The top 10 overall is usually ripping.

I had a friend in highshcool that used to go every year. Sounded really gnarly, party crowd for sure, his redneck dad loved that event.

The top 20 overall are there for the race. Everyone else is there for the ride and the party. It will usually draw out a fast guy or two from out of state.
It's a killer time and I'd urge anyone interested to give it a shot. Ride within your limits!

That's an insane amount of dirt bikes, with that many though you'd think you'd see someone dressed up as a panda bear or Frankenstein.

I've done this race many times, first in the poker run and one year in the 50 mile class in 2001 on a TTR125l, and 100 mile since then.

Best I've done is 5th. Always felt like I could win that race, but had some bad luck a few times. One year that I thought I had a shot, I crashed at mile 40ish, shattering my knee cap and getting some nasty cuts and bleeding a ton. I finished the 100 miles, then went to the hospital. Got a few dusted pieces of my patella removed and the rest put back together, a bunch of stitches then went back to collect my 14th overall trophy.

Good times I recommend everyone gives it a go!

Looks like fun. Reminds me of Elsinore GP back in the day.

Yeah I watched a few of the 2022 videos and that course looks VERY tough. Rocks, dust, narrow trails, tight etc. I don't think I saw go over 30 mph except for the start.

It’s insane, not really in a great way imo. Sand whoops for entire track, crazy start, dusty, etc. if you want a cooler racing experience there is a double header race weekend that pays points for the NMA off-road series around the same time of year in the same area (frostbite and white knuckle) Two races in the same weekend with less random people to weave through. If you want the big D100 event experience then do that haha.
