Anyone see deano's bike smoking out the bottom (breather maybe?) in his heat? Think it was mechanical, not a stall.

no it was when he won his heat. that pic shows it much better. you had to be looking for it in the broadcast to see it. i thought i saw something on lap 4 then for sure saw it on lap 5.

Yeah I also saw it a couple of times in his heat race. Look's like PC may have "possibly" dropped the ball with this one and missed something (surely they have a B bike on standby?). These things happen I guess, but you've got to feel bad for Dean - not am die hard fan but he definitely had that one.

Can't race a back up bike, you have to race the bike that goes through tech. You can change the engine if you can get it done in time.

It was a bunch of smoke. I noticed it once over a jump. I could see a lot of smoke coming from a breather hose by the rear shock leakage. I was wondering if his team noticed and would replace the motor. I guess they didn't.

Ok so what part of the bike is "the main part" that goes through tech? Is it the frame?
What if a rider tweeks a frame in an early practice crash......Can they swap all the parts over to a different one?

I saw that, too. But I thought it was caused by him whipping the bike upside-down on the last lap of the heat race.

I heard them mention at the podium that they swapped a frame when they were talking about the MMI Top Tech award. Not sure what was going on there.

I saw some smoke as he crossed the finish line in the main, too.

What are the odds that the bike quits on the last lap of a 15 lap main and then works just fine again? I'm guessing something is up here. Has anyone checked Mike Alessi's helmet for a laser guided ignition interrupter pointer gadget? I think I saw someone hiding behind the grassy knoll by the Raiders sign.

Good question. I was under the impression the frame must be stock, that's the one thing you
can't "aftermarket out".

Anybody got a rule book?

They tag the frame during tech inspection , but then again if it gets damaged they cant make you ride something that could fail so there must be protocol for replacing the frame. I am sure someone will be able to tell us or find it in the rule book because I have no idea what they would do in that situation.

When the bike quit on him you could see flames shooting out of the exhaust while he rolled the take off of the tripple

Don't they run a dual ignition setup? It looked like he was fiddling with the switches on the bars to me, ignition went bad and he was swapping maps maybe?

1 ignition 2 maps. map is software. either the ignition works or it doesn't

The smoke was likely due to blow by coming out the crankcase vent. Probably due to something failing in the engine, such as a piston ring, or a cracked piston...

Hypothetically, my bike does this in a heat, I do not go on it for the main until they changed the engine

I wonder if PC may have tried some different engine part, or tune, to gain some power for this race. Something which didn't work out very well in the reliability dept.
After all, they haven't exactly been dominating the races lately.

He posted a photo on instagram earlier today. It looked like his chain was falling off on the last lap of the main. I just looked again and the photo was down though.
