I could've sworn I saw Deano do at least 1 race on it before going back to the 250 class.

Stefan Everts to Makita Suzuki USA for two years (outdoors only) there is a part in his book about it.

Christophe Pourcel to the Monster Energy 450 Kawasaki team.

Greg Albertyn to American Honda was a done for 95.

Jeffrey Herlings to Honda on a 450 was close until KTM offered him a Brinks truck full of cash.

Barcia to KTM until Redbull said nope.

Stewart to MCR a few years earlier was done, just needed Stewart’s Signature.

I was looking forward to seeing how Alessio Chiodi would do in the US. I think he came over for
just a couple races but it never panned out. Can't recall if the deal fell apart or if he got hurt? But man, he
was fast.
Had problens wirh his wrist back and that hindered him big time.

Lol. You should research that bud..
I should have put dates in, my bad. See JT$ comment above.

Kevin Windham nearly went to KTM, he tried the bike in late 2007.

Wonder if Albee would have continued his gp form if he stayed on the Honda? The rm in the states seemed to be way off until 98/99 with Reynard Larry and then greg

I remember a lot of Kdub/JGR talk back in 2008/2009ish
JGR wanted DW15 badly in 2013 but he ended up at at Jeff Ward Racing. Like most things, likely came down to money and the factory Yamaha having a bad reputation.

Instead of going to race the L&M Husqvarna in the 500cc class in 2000 he got also the offer to race the Suzuki in America (outdoors only). This because he was pretty impressive in 1997 and 1998 (together with Tortelli on a total different level). And he came back stronger then ever in 1999 after that gruesome knee injury.

But the fact that his, back then girlfriend and now wife Kelly was still in school studying for teacher and that he would become the teammate of Greg Albertyn made him decide not to sign. But it was a close call.

PS: I jumped the gun by saying that back then it was Makita Suzuki. Back then it was just Factory Suzuki.

I think Canard had the option to switch to Rockstar Makita Suzuki for 2010 but they signed Stroupe instead. What year did Barcia almost go to KTM? I never heard about that. After listening to the whiskey throttle show I guess you could say RC returning to Honda for 2005 was a deal that almost happened but didn't.
A few other honorable mentions:
Pourcel tested the GEICO Honda in 2011 right?
Pourcel with MCR Yamaha, did he actually race that bike? Cant remember. (Edit, he raced Freestone and Hangtown on it according to the vault.)
Jason Lawrence for Arma Suzuki City. Can't remember the year. 2013 maybe?

I was a little off topic, but yes was referring to a shortened SX season and only the 2 outdoor events before he retired, and was back on Hondas shortly after.

The Deano deal at TwoTwo fell through because Honda didn't do what they said they would too. Shame.

Pourcel was the only one who thought he was close to signing with factory Kawi.

But he actually was with Jeff Ward Racing... which would have led him nowhere anyway.

VERY NICE!

I have a pit shirt I bought off eBay several years ago. I had another one that was a size or two too small. I gave it to a riding friend.

Wasn't Josh Grant supposed to be on a Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki team and it never got off the ground? Or was that Deano?
Both
Josh grant did race for Jeff Ward Racing in 2012 on Kawis with Kyle Chisholm and their may have been a third rider, but I’m pretty sure it was just them two.

I remember reading about this too, Reed said the motor was really close to his Yamaha motor. He said that he wore Sebastian Tortellis gear during his test ride to not be noticed. Ohh and that if Yamaha didn’t let him wear different color gear besides blue that he would’ve signed with another team lol

His prime? I guess if we are just judging by age. It all came and went as he laid in one hospital bed after another.

I do recall being very excited to see Townley racing on Reed's team... And also hoping he wouldn't wad up again. So sad it ended up the way it did.

Its a shame how short lived Townley’s US career was, amazing rider for sure and would have a 250 outdoor Championship on his mantle if a guy named Ryan Villopoto wasn’t racing. Was he supposed to be riding for two two on Honda’s or Kawi’s? What year was that? I know he almost won a moto at RedBud on the TLD Honda in 2010. Did he do anymore US races after that?

Yup. Reed wanted to sign Wilson for 2013 and beyond and was really close, but Honda wouldn’t provide a factory bike for Deano. I really wanted to see Townley on that twotwo bike, rumor was that he was hauling ass. Also was a shame that Geico couldn’t work out a deal with Pourcel for 2011. It would’ve been neat to see what he could’ve done on their bike instead of riding that Yamaha for 2 rounds and then going back to Europe and basically wasting that whole year.

Yaa it definitely sucks. If he didn’t get hurt in ‘06 when he first came over here he very well could’ve won that outdoor title. He won the ‘04 world title and won a few races and got 2nd or 3rd overall in the 450 class on a KTM 450. He would’ve been a title favorite for ‘06 IMO. But he was supposed to come back over and ride for Reed in 2012 when Reed got hurt pretty bad in supercross casing RV. I don’t think he did anymore races in the U.S but he did win a MXGP race on factory Suzuki racing for Everts in 2014 I believe.
