Did anyone else notice during the second half of the 450 main Emig and Ralph just couldn't come up with ANY relevant conversation? There were numerous times that it was just nothing. No announcing at all. Was actually kind of peaceful, but that can't be good for a casual fan to see.

"Man this sport is so boring the announcers can't even come up with anything to talk about."

Well honestly Im sure Emig has plenty of interesting commentary about the riders and what not, but every time he says something, a signal goes off in Ralphs brain that says "JEFF SAID SOMETHING, QUICK, DROWN OUT WHAT HE IS SAYING WITH IRRELEVANT NONSENSE"

so Jeff has probably just given up at this point trying to fill dead air with information

Why they never mentioned tomac doing the triple at the end of the place near 1st turn.

GuyB, can we just have a weekly post race complaint thread stickied until the following Thursday so the front page won’t be filled with all sorts of complaints about the start, tough blocks, crowd size, the triple jump, the whoops, the announcing, the dirt, the track design, etc.?

The announcing or lack of really doesn’t bother me at all. I just watch the racing for what it is. Something I have always loved. This isn’t much of a casual fan sport anyway. Most people that watch/follow it race, ride, or used to race or ride at some point. Maybe had kids or a spouse that did. Doubt some fat lard sitting on his ass eating bon bons, flipping channels on a Saturday night could even remotely figure out what is actually going on on the track. Much less would they care lol. Just be like oh look, dudes jumping dirt bikes. One of em is bound to eat shit, lets watch and see!

That was slick, and a major time saver.

There was lots of dead air at my place, watching that snooze-fest. So many contenders out, or riding injured, Anderson in Dungey-Mode, Tomac on another level than the rest, then holeshat...

Took a risk and turned it off with 2 laps left.

SX needs more snake-pits or something.

250 main was good for a little while.

We live in a world that needs constant stimulation, people can no longer enjoy watching a person run a almost perfect race and enjoy it. You guys need to go into your quiet safe room and de stress.

It is not easy to generate excitement and continuous chatter about a single file trail ride, albeit a fast trail ride. (450 main)

Last night I caught myself thinking "if I had never watched this sport before, I would turn it off just because this announcer is so annoying".
All I heard was Ralph yelling about this or that rider being on a factory machine or only on a lowly factory supported machine and the phrase "here tonight" 17,000 times. Every week. He's not bad when there is a close battle, not great but decent. I wish he would stop screaming 90% of the time. I've never seen any other announcer in any sport who constantly yells out ordinary statements, particularly when there is no real action happening like last night. You never hear stick and ball broadcasters screaming their conversations into the microphone between pitches or downs.
I think Jeff isn't that bad most rounds and would be much, much better if he had a partner who knows moto and gives him something to work with.
By contrast, week after week Langston and Weege make four 35 minute motos an absolute pleasure - close racing or not. Decent announcing is not asking for too much.

I have become so board with sx. I can’t watch the night show,I have resorted to watching just the 450 main on YouTube. I watch it about 1 hr after it happens and I find my self fast forwarding to the last few laps.

I always see people defend the crappy annoucing whenever the race is boring, but that doesn't hold up at all. Most other sports could bore paint off the wall, for God's sake baseball is 99% shots of dudes standing around on grass between pitches. Yet the announcers never make my ears bleed

Daniel Blair’s analysis was great and Ralph & Jeff were a bit awkward after it because they knew they were just shown up.

I thought it was hilarious that they didn’t mention Davalos crash at all.

The problem is Jeff. His style is too jerky. There is no flow for Ralf to catch. He is confusing, and I'm pretty sure not even he knows where he's trying to go when he begins a thought. I want to know how the art Is created, spoken in a way that isn't difficult to hear. Like Bailey, or Langston, or Blair, or even Weege. Even though neither are racers, Ralf and Weege would make the current duo look terrible and be far more interesting.

I remember, maybe Daytona 07, Rick Johnson, David Bailey, and maybe Ralph? were commentating. Reed was in hot pursuit of Carmichael, and RJ said, let's just hold back and listen, we don't need commentary for this. In that moment it worked so very well, but it flies in the face of what's expected when the management suits are watching.

Marv, Anderson and Brayton all did it, but not as much as Eli that did it nearly every lap.
I was sitting nearby and watching it.

I didn't see him do it when he was in any kind of traffic.

I was watching with a buddy who has never seen a race before.
I pointed out that triple the first time Eli jumped it during the main. I told him how cool that was.
My pal said "If it's such a big deal, why didn't the announcer mention it?"
I was basically speechless...

Several laps later, when the camera was on Eli again, he jumped it and Ralph quickly mentioned it and moved on.

Your friend sounds like he is of a demographic that only thinks and feels what he is told to think and feel, by media talking heads.Blink

He didn't say it as a rhetorical question, more like he was surprised that they wouldn't make a bigger deal out of something extraordinary during the race.

Most of the top guys were doing it, Forkner was the first I seen to hit the quad in qualifying, then Osborne and Smith hit it in the next laps. I knew most of the 450s would be able to do it, but seeing the 250s do it first was pretty crazy. As the night went on, it did seem like most decided to just triple instead of quad. In the second qualifying session, before Tomac hit it, he pulled off a lap about half a second faster than anyone, then when he hit the quad he gained another 2-3 tenths at least.
