Daytona should be a 250 East/West race

Actually I think it's time all of races are combined. Get rid of the east/West crap. Lets see the best riders every week.
But at least they should do at Daytona!.

I was just thinking that. West guys never get to race Daytona, except when they move up to the 450 class.

A1 Opener, Daytona & Vegas.
Now that would be interesting. smile

Yep. Can’t argue with that.

Yes it should . The whole non feld event might have something to do with it though.

Nationals are just a little over 2 months away.

As it's been discussed multiple times on here, combining the 250 class will eliminate some smaller teams, multiple rides on the factory efforts (no reason to field four to five guys) and a bunch of jobs for wrenching/technical staff. In one swoop, it would kill around 15 rides or so.

I’d agree.

But having A1 be an East/West it would take away the 6 weeks of injury recovery time that the East allows. It would take out title contenders that get injured in the off season that can currently shift coasts. Like Forkner this year.

Back in the 90s they would have round 2 in Houston or Minneapolis and it would be an East/West. So it has worked in the past.

Yeah I get that. But at the very least, Daytona should be east/west.
It's so unique and nothing like the other SX tracks. I want to see all the 250 riders take on that beast.

That would suck but what the class was originally intended for , a stepping stone to the big boy class , was lost a long time ago. A true national 250 supercross championship with all the best guys would be better. That or put an end to guys being career lifers in the class.

I like the idea but actually Daytona doesn't need this. It has already a lot of hype, winning Daytona is the biggest, most prestigious race of the year probably ex aequo with a win at A1 and at the MXDN.

To have the shoot outs in other rounds helps to keep the hype steady all season long (current schedule = first races excitment, then 250 west, triple crown 1, 250 east + some west guys in 450, triple crown 2, Daytona, east west shoot out 1, triple crown 2, then finale/championship winners & east/west shoot out 2). That variety is interesting as it is, so far it is round 10 and it is still interesting.

It is a recurrent debate I tend to disagree with as I don't see why "a true national 250 supercross championship" would be more interesting.

- I don't see how 1 series could be more exciting than 2.
- Rookies right now are not finishing 18th; great rookies or riders in their 2nd year can shine, that is not something they could do against all the top guys combined
- So much fewer rookies would get good support and so the possibility to become "great".
- With less to no coverage, it would be much harder to become of fan of them (everyone can have preferences on this type of riders or styles or just cheer for the local boys).
- It is also great to let the riders heal but still remain competitive for 1 coast; the youngsters would be injured more often in a longer series.
- It is great now too as the West guys can try the 450 class as fill in riders when moving East, and vice versa.
- We already have all the best during (the safer) outdoors, which brings a good variety all year long (West/East/then All) and the nice balance.
- "That or put an end to guys being career lifers in the class": it would not either as the best guys would still have the best bikes, and still it is not a guaranty to move up and to pile up titles as 10 fast guys want it as much if not more when younger.
- The feeder class is already at Loretta; fast amateurs get good support and are on solid programs too.

What I do agree with is maybe it could be cool to have more often juniors (125 or 250 amateurs), maybe 3 times a year, but the risks for the riders (and the promoters liability) is I think very high. I think it is better they become 18, take their 250 then race 1 coast where they can qualify for a main if they have enough equipment and seat time.

Great idea, would be good for a shootout round.

You will gut the 250 teams if you combine the series. Every team including PC, Geico, etc will cut either 25% to 50% of their riders. Some smaller teams will fold up shop entirely.

That’s not good for the sport or the fans.

Be careful what you wish for.

Indy will be a freak fest for the 250 riders. I just wish they had made this a 3 Moto format. I think you will see a huge shake up in points on either coast at the Indy round.

|

3/11/2018 8:55 PM

Can’t do that. If you do, the privateer is dead. Unless you also want a development class split into each coast racing on Fridays or something like that.

The 250 class is not a lites class anymore... time to get rid of the east/west 250 bs! Bring on a east/west 125's!! One 10 minute race per show!
