I could care less if someone is on a SX only contract, just thought I'd share what some of the media thinks about it. Hopefully this hasn't been posted yet,if so my apologies.

Hadn't seen it yet. Despain is the man, from an announcing standpoint! He could do Supercross!
Thanks for posting.

I don't trust any "Joined Date" later than 2012

Dave is cool and is a true old schooler. I love how he says it. "Ryan congrats on the title..Now don't tell me you're going to go to suzuki and demand a sx only contract.. "

I like how both Despain and Dungey call the MXoN "des Nations". Right on!

x2, you never realize the impact an announcer has... until you have a bad one! At the winternationals drag races their 'legend' Dave McClelland was a guest announcer, he made the show...

Yep Art was awesome!

Always loved the way he told stories....

I think when Henry won on the 4stroke for the first time he busted out the infamous "different strokes for different folks" opening line. Smile
Had a chance to chat with him at the US Open one year, very cool guy.

Here is some classic Art..

Dave Despain got his start back in the '70's announcing local motocross races in GA. and now one of the top motorsports reporters in the world. Dave's true roots are from motocross.

My favorite Dave Despain quote of all time was when he was talking about James Stewart's "full steam ahead and damned the consequences approach to racing." For some reason I thought it was a beautiful and brilliant choice of words.

Just an observation but to me guys like Eckman, Despain, Page, Miers did a much better job than what we have now.

We need a combined championship. You can still ride and win SX only but if you want the Championship that is for the Best overall Motocross and Supercross Racer then you ride them both.

And it needs to be a Big check to encourage all the riders to compete for it.

What should the combined champion be called?

The US Ultimate Morocrosser?

Weigandt is awesome and will only get better.

You guys waxing nostalgic about the Eckman days, etc. are probably the same ones who bitched up a storm about him the mondays following a race. Although, complaining about how many more times you had to hear "they're bar to bar!" or "He's on his back bumper!" were valid complaints....

One of the best race announcers ever. A virtual walking encyclopedia of American motorcycle racing.

Dave is a moto head first and foremost!

|

I have to agree with Kardy, Weege is doing a great job. I hope they pick him up for Supercross, too. That being said, there's only one true great in the motocross announcing world: Larry Huffman.

|

10/8/2010 8:04 PM

You guys are all wrong, Ralph Sheheen is the greatest announcer in motorcycle history!

|

10/8/2010 9:02 PM

The best part is that Despain used to announce the Supercross' back in the 80's.
