From Marty Smith and DeCoster all the way to Jeremy McGrath... Dave managed every team Honda legend. His knowledge and stories are mind-blowing.

Ping- Wow, another home run. Arnold and RJ together were magic! Every time I think I've heard the best episode yet you up the game. I'm 64 so I really like the 70's and 80's stuff but I've learned so much listening the newer guys as well. Thanks for doing this.

I’ve listened to the first 2 hours so far while out in the shop. Most excellent. Anyone whose moto interest started in the 70s will love this conversation.

Good stuff, I listened to a few hours before nodding off (going to bed). Was there any discussion with Dave's involvement with Alta?

A Great show!

It took me around 11hrs to listen to it, with all my back tracking - but also, I can't do what others seem to be able to do : do other things while listening to Pod Casts. When I'm in my workshop, designing / machining / welding, my inner monologue is just dialed to '11', so podcasts just don't have much of a chance of being absorbed.

But this one, had me stopping every now and then, and plonking myself on my Grandads chair, with a beverage, and ardently Listening. I'll have to try a few more that way.

Good stuff, Ping!

Mind blown: Bayle winning the 250 Supercross, 250 outdoor, and 500 outdoor on the exact same suspension (including the same valving)! 😲😲😲

Truly a fantastic show with Dave and Rick! Props too for a few added/different camera angles that happened during the interview which made the production look slicker.

Ping noticed you were looking at some noises going on behind you...some kinda construction going on back there Smile

The automatic transmission story was awesome. However, my favorite part was when the Japanese Honda exec met with Dave Arnold so Dave could request permission to sign RJ away from Yamaha, even though RJ had already signed it. Before they started talking about it, the phone rings and it's Yamaha. The Japanese exec spoke with the Yamaha team guy (I think Larry Griffiths) on the phone about Dave Stealing RJ and the Japanese exec hangs up and immediately approves the deal with an EFF that guy, sign RJ.

I met Dave Arnold around 30 years ago in Irwindale, CA. He was on a roadbike ride took a digger knocking himself pretty good in the head. I was a Paramedic back then. He ended up with an ambulance ride that day.

That was a GREAT story. To imagine what came of that is unreal. Rick Fucking Johnson.

How great was that!!

Would be so good to do a part 2 one day - with a different co host who has spent some years with Dave A - selected by Dave A.

Such a wealth of historic bench racing info - I kept day-dreaming about the stories when listening - then have to rewind 20mins and listen to the next part again. (Full Bearuno spec)

If Dave A were to ever write a book - I would buy one.Add some photos from the times - and its the worlds most factory coffee table book.

Cheers legend

Some pictures of the 1991/ 92 RC250A Automatic Transmission, Aluminium and Steel (the cradle tubes) framed bike and engine, plus a plaque with a bit of info, that Dave and Ricky talked about :

And, the magnificent EXP2 'Activated Radicals' - 'AR' - 400cc 2t he mentioned (some reports describe it as 440cc, but, it won the then 400cc class), 5th outright against the Various Works 4t Multi Cylinder bikes:

In it's Baja guise - that may have been the 440cc Mr Arnold referred to? :

And, the bike they sold that used just a little bit of the AR technology , the CRM250AR - a Dual Sport / Trail Bike :

....

You're not wrong on the book he could (possibly) bring out!

But, something makes me think he may (possibly) have some pretty heavy duty NDAs that Honda may have had him sign.......Whistling

Heck, I'm signed up to some NDAs with relation to some of my (great paying) projects for other types of 2 wheel vehicles, and I sure as hell would Not want to break them, and they would pretty much amount to nothing in comparison to what Dave Arnold would have been involved with / known about over his decades with Honda.

Makes sense to me. Forks are the most important, stiff for sx. Perfect for Mx also. If your tall and ride the bike light. Bayle had a huge rear caliper made, drag the rear brake going 4 th gear in the whoops. Changes the shock performance, slower rebound for 1. Keeps the chassis tracking straight,

Dave seems like a good guy, so calm. I imagine it was difficult job dealing with the riders . Like Bayle saying get rid of MxKied. Or how RJ was dealt by honda. Etc. I like Dave’s stories about engineering a motorcycle. He explains it great. It is fun designing something and seeing it work. Like the 85 works cr125, biggest advantage over the competition ever. Next would be 86 especially the 87 cr125. Knowing that wow , Look at what we built. We designed and worked on the strongest hhg drill rig in the world. Had every world record, it’s a great feeling that you kicked the world’s ass.
