Does anyone remember the year that Damon Bradshaw was racing the 125 stock a class at Loretta Lynns and he crashed in the first turn and went from dead last to win on a stock yz 125 on a year that the yz 125 was supposed to be the slowest bike in the class???
Immediately after crossing the finish line they started tearing his bike apart because someone had protested saying that the bike was modified...
Turned out that the bike was bone stock. He just rode the wheels off that thing that moto....
Sure do miss racing like that, where someone comes along and is just that good!!!

I think it was 1988. I was there and I'm pretty sure he was already in about 20th place by the end of the first lap. I remember saying to my friend, "He just passed 20 of the fastest riders in the country in one lap."

On a related note, I have a vague memory of Damon pulling a wicked bowl-turn start at a supercross. If I remember right, he started way on the outside, railed the bowl up above everyone, and came out at or near the front.

Can anybody validate my memory that this actually happened, or even better, point to when and where? Maybe even a vid?

On the other hand, maybe I just dreamed this up....

Hmann, I believe that was Damon ' s first sx at Osaka Japan. His mom and him took his 250 there and he won that night over Ricky Johnson and a bunch of established stars and Ricky Johnson told him after the race that he did great but that from now on he'd be expected to win ...

Anaheim 1990 was the race you are thinking about. Bradshaw's rookie year in 250s, he started on the far outside after crashing during a battle with Matiasevich in the heat. It was a right hand 90 degree start and he kept it pinned to take the holeshot and eventually won after battling against Matiasevich and Bayle. It was a great race.

Kirk- that may be it, though my memory is a left hand turn. Maybe I was watching from the back of the tv.

Moore- I'll have to do some digging and see if I can find some vid of that race.

Thanks guys.

Here is the video queued up to the start of the Main.

He might have done it another time too.

That vid was great. Have not seen that race in ages. Chicken sure was a pain in the ass in his day! What was wrong with Bradshaw's setup? Soft forks or something? It looked like he had to yank on the bars every time he hit a bump to keep from getting bucked.

I was there,saw it.

But,I think Mike Brown had more epic rides that ended in broken bikes, smashed wheels and shit.

I'm 10 ish years older than Mike,we all parked together,Chester,boruff,Mike,Briggs,others I'm forgetting.

Mike still going strong,pretty amazing.

the day I beat him at sugartree in 250b he wanted to run me over but I knew what to do.

Last time I saw Zack he was a fireman in Charlotte and working towards becoming a captain, so I'd say the "spoiled brat" turned out just fine. Wink

Still like most of your stories, though.

A buddy and I witnessed Bradshaw clawing his way to the front at Washougal "96". He made a pass each lap by absolutely railing the old bowl turn after the ski jump.

Every one else was taking the inside and he would brake so late then PIN it!! Blew our minds!!
