"Our shootout placed an emphasis on just that—balance. The testing crew found itself balanced out into two familiar groups—the fast guys and the not-so-fast guys. And by fast we mean three of our six testers have rightfully earned points at an AMA National. Yeah, like that kind of fast. Our other testers are no slouches either; a grand prix / desert pro, a working-class weekend racer, and a handful of quick vets who aren’t exactly used to getting the blue flag. But it’s easy to see the line drawn in the sand, or should we say in the dirt at Cahuilla Creek and Glen Helen Raceway. These tracks were hand-picked for their perfect mix of natural terrain and man-made obstacles that can easily sift out a machine’s imperfections. Two groups of riders, five brand-new 450 motocross bikes, one winner."

I hate when they weigh them with full gastanks. It should be all fluids and an empty tank like the AMA weighs them. Or put the same amount of gas in each one at least. It seems funny to me when people worry about how many grams difference in innertubes, but start a 5 lap moto with a full tank of gas that is carried up high.

Nice shootout...I like being able to read the results as opposed to sitting through 20 minutes of talking to find out...

I agree 100%
I make dipsticks for my race bikes (MX/Supermoto/Road Race) and try to just run a “safe” amount for the race.
Otherwise, fitting Ti Bolts would be even more crazy.

The biggest issue is a bike with a bigger tank, would be penalised, when most wouldn’t fill it to race.

If the tank capacity is listed and accurate you can multiply the volume in litres x 0.74 and take that off the weight in Kilograms.

EG YZ450 - 1.9 gal = 7.19L x .74 = 5.3kg of fuel (11.68 pounds)
