Where did the current winning celebration come from? Odd trend of fist pumping ala Jeff Ward 1990 Atlanta SX.

I liked it when marv would heel click. It kinda was his signature thing like McGrath's knack knack.

Super lame for most of the guys... the one chance they get to do something memorable, and well... sigh..

Still wanna see ap7 tip a magnetic visor after a win..

Me personally, I take it like they want to seem as if its no big deal to them. "A win?...meh, of course I won, and I will do it again." A confidence type deal. Same reason why they keep negative things private, look confident and strong.

I used to think it was just to not be flashy but IDK.. I miss the whips too.

It’s such an easy way to pump up the fans and make it more exciting. I remember Travis throwing lazy boys and Superman seatgrabs at races and people loving it. We used to anticipate which triple guys like Travis, MC, RC, Lusk, or K-dub would throw their tricks off of. It was awesome. I’m amazed nobody has brought that back yet. The tricks are a cake walk to guys at their level and it’s just a better show. Hell, opening ceremonies used to be amazing in the MC/RC/Pastrana days. Guys just wave now.

I said the same thing after the race. What happened to a nasty whip on the last lap or over the finish. Throw that thing upside down and make someone think you are excited at least. You think the Oakley ad of RC would be as cool if he just fist pumped? Make win whips great again!

back in the day, the entire last lap was a celebration... every triple or jump near the crowd was an opportunity to celebrate! they might as well be rolling the finish line like a heat if they are going to throw a straight air fist pump.. no amount of revving a 4 stroke to the limiter afterwords makes up for the lack of showmanship! bring back the celebrations!

what about the whole last lap show-boating that they used to do in the '90s? One handers over the triple, waving to the crowd, big whips.........I suppose I assume that these guys are under such silly pressure to not screw up that they can't risk doing ANYTHING out of the ordinary....but I miss those last lap celebratory moments.

Somebody needs to bring the cross up back in style!

I mean I know why they don't, but it would be awesome if they would bust out some whips all over the track on the last lap.

Is this legitimately something you people occupy your brain with? A rider not celebrating their win the way you want them to? Whips are cool, but damn, this is off season level bitching...

Trying to find Grant Langstons last lap celebrations at Houston SX when he swapped out and crashed doing a one hander on the last lap. Cost him his first SX win, he never made that mistake again. Cool

Magoo could cross the finish line in style.

Back in the Stew, Reed, RC days they used to do a victory lap after too, ride around the track and pump up the crowd.. it’s almost like winning meant more to them.
Chad leaving his second place trophy on the podium, because he didn’t even want it was so badass!

I think it’s a rule no tricks. It’s all about safety just look at the flaggers with helmets on. Haha . There following the rules like good boys. Big celebration is hand seizer now. MC had the best. Windom had a very stylist whip on his yz125 min. Sx 97 great heal clickers too

fist pump is more of a first time win or like a monkey off the back.

Doing a whip or a trick is something guys will do when theyre more relaxed and they can do something for the fans

What about the dance moves Stewart used to do back in his 125 days...I totally agree OP that today's riders lack personality even in last lap celebrations

Haha totally fair point. I just miss the excitement selfishly. I look at a guy like Jett who is possibly on the cusp of being the next star over here and can imagine how hyped the crowd would get seeing a young kid with his personality bringing some of the flash and fun back to the sport. I may not remember every race I’ve ever been to but I can close my eyes and relive the opening ceremony laps MC and Ricky did together one year. A two man gate drop with “Blind” from Korn blasting in the stadium while the two guys at the top of the sport threw nac nacs, no footed can cans, and whips basically side by side for the crowd at every corner of the stadium.

You might do some research on what happened to Magoo, with regards to 'cross(ing) the finish line in style'. One of the All -Time Greats, brought down by a finish line mishap.

The Winner can do whatever he bloody well wants to do (so long as it does not endanger others). To demand a 'show', on top of the Fantastic Race Performance they've just put in, well............

To me the fist pump/slam conveys “woohoo!! I can’t believe I won!” More so than confidence. To me confidence came when the winner would whip it or do a nac-nac over the triple on the last lap and then do a monster whip over the finish line.

It does take some of the excitement out of the ending for sure.

Maybe we are seeing the effect of riders growing up on the tracks at practice facilities and there is no time for goofing around and throwing big whips. So none of them really know how to throw good whips anymore.

Idk just a thought.

Finish line whips were always something I’d look forward to watching. It’s a bummer when guys just cruise it now. I mean I get it, but still bums me out

I can get down with this opinion as well.

My initial thought was something of this nature but then I got to thinking about how they try to bring so much psychology into it these days. Hiding things and trying to not show a lot of emotion. Its an over-analysis I'm sure, haha. What else do we have to do while we wait for more racing?
