Looks like it has good bones. Was using a brake disc as a pipe heat shield ever "a thing"? Please tell me it was a thing..

If you look closely it has HRC markings. I'm guessing one of Jimmy Button's old bikes.

Must be too subtle, I'm not seeing it.

ETA: Those pictures made my soul hurt.

That's fucking legit... Looks way better than Scott Brown's CTI carbon fiber CR 80 from 1985..... This one must be the powerplant testing mule.....

Does the brake rotor on the exhaust help?

Brake rotors are made to dissipate heat. Think about it.

Listing price lower than the asking price is a bold strategy, somebody has read Art of the Deal, clearly.

Complete with spoke wraps to hide the rusted out spokes.
You have finally explained the why of spoke skins to me. I always wondered. Thank you

Was Alan Passmore running races out there during that time?
Quite a guy. Became a Fresno County Sheriff Deputy. He knew me from out there and cut me a free pass when we were stopped for trespass to hunt. Great guy.

OBTW..... Epic thread and one of the funniest. So many excellent posts...

It's definately a factory bike.. Could be Mike Craig's old bike? Hard to tell with the Spoke Wraps. Thats a factory trick used to hide titanium spokes on the factory test mules. The factory pipe guard I think is the giveaway though.

Other than the CMC Golden State races I don't know who was running the regular events as I was only 12yrs old at the time of the photo. I do have fond memories of racing there so if Alan was running the show, I owe him a thank you for the great times!

Needs more sponsor stickers though.

For 1985, that old girl is in pretty mint condition. Its all there.... you just have to look past 40 pounds of decals, heat shields and spoke wraps. Those plastics would polish up well.. and you can tell the bike hasn't been ridden in years, as the fork sliders have surface rust spots. Its got fresh tires and the bars, controls etc.. look like new. Here in Australia, that bike would be gone in an instant at that price.
Must admit though, that i have never seen anything more ridiculous than that exhaust heat shield. A lot of time and effort probably went into getting that thing fitted up. Could of been a fad in his local area at the time.... like boot covers....

That adds additional stopping power. By putting the brake disc directly on the pipe you stop things where it counts- at the motor. Think "Jake Brake". Makes the wheel brakes SO MUCH more efficient.

Y'all really should've known these things.

New rear tyre though. And at least he took it apart to paint the frame.

I've seen worse.
