There was a only ridden once 1979 CR250 on ebay about ten years ago that went for 13K
I bid 8K and thought I would get it for sure but wasn't even close.

Cool bike but not worth $6500.

I had an '02 I bought new, slow POS IMO. That RC valve was junk.

Replaced it with an '04 CRF450 and it was night/day better in every aspect.

Even being "new", it's still a 2003 CR.

Oh look, 3700 OBO for one that's had a frame-off rebuild. I doubt this one is still for sale, lol.

LOL. Noticed that too. Trying to justify his sale price. I guess he forgot that Husky, TM, Beta, Sherco, and GasGas all make full size 2 stroke bikes.

You can definitely get a used two stroke and go through the whole bike. But you are still with a used bike essentially. If you want a modded bike in the end better off building it. Least with that CR everything is new. For whats that worth. Guessing many of the parts are hard to get today. Anyone that's truly done a restoration can attest to the end cost. Always more than you intended.

I look at it like this. The seller does not really want / have to sell it. But, if you really want a new CR250 you can have one for 6500. maybe I should have said “need’ a new CR250.

A well known seller in the UK had a brand new 2007 CR 250 on ebay auction that made £10000 ($13000), so an 03 which is pretty much the same bike for half the cost would be a fair deal. Although when I bought the 03 in 03 it was £3500. Those CRs sure are a timeless classic to me

Gotta pay to play. If not go buy a 19 250 smoker 7k and a way better bike.

|

If only I had the money.

A brand new KTM/Husky/Yamaha are wayyy better bikes for not much more.

I’d pay $3k for a 15 year old “brand new” bike like that CR

If it was a new 96........ whistling

Yep.
I probably have 6-ish into my ‘02. Some parts are getting tough to find, including cases, power valves, intake boots (reed block), air boots, subframes etc.
when I built mine, I bought a spare or two of a lot of parts just to have them on hand.

You think that bike is only worth 3k? I mean, I know something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'd bet this guy gets closer to 6500 than your 3k

|

It doesn't matter what brand of car or bike. There are always those that say its not worth it.
I can think of a few vehicles and bikes that if still made and available new today. Would buy more than one.

I’m just saying what I would pay for it. The right guy for sure would spend $5000+ on it but I’m not that guy.

|

I was thinkin 3,000-3800.

It hasn't been ridden since it was built 16 years ago. It's not meant to be ridden. A collector or somebody with F-you money will scoop it up gladly.

The Yamaha is not a better bike. Once the carb and squish is dialed that bike will walk the yz. Less low end sure, but faster for sure. My 02 is my favorite bike and I have a couple newer 450s and a cherry 01 cr250. The 02 is night and day better. Faster, more stable, better suspended. The 01 is lower barely, and probably turns a tad sharper. But overall the 2002 is a better bike. 05 base gasket, some porting and a pwk make world's of difference.

when in doubt, pin it out

This....the carb swap alone makes that bike run worlds better!

|

I bought one in 2003 and paid 4800 out the door.

|

1/22/2019 8:08 PM

Most buyers are cheapskates and will pay $1500 for a clapped out bike, powder coat the nipples and what not and end up spending $6000 on it anyway and bitch when they can't get more than $3000 for it.

|

The older I get, the faster I was.

But everything on it is not new. All the plastic/rubberized parts are going on 20 years old, sitting in old solvents/lubricants and whatever environmental/uv exposure has been present.

I paid $6500 for my 02’ last year
