I saw someone on twitter post that he had a rough free practice, and then he wasn’t out in the first timed session. Anyone got any more info?

I sat in the stadium in Arlington last week watching his meltdown. Great starts in both the Heat and LCQ and a progressive fade out of qualifying spots. I started thinking that in the 18 years that I’ve been watching I’ve never seen a factory rider do this. We’ve seen factory guys miss mains, but normally there was first turn crashes or bike failures to blame. Never have I seen a guy with that level of support just straight up not make the cut. I know Dean Ferrid short stint with KTM didn’t go well, but not this bad. Bobby benched Jason during his rookie year and told him to figure his shit out, I’m starting to think the same needs to be done here. There is nothing good happening out there and only killing his confidence and mental state.

It was his 2nd supercross race ever, and he finished 11th in his first. For sure it's not going how he hoped but you got to give the guy a chance

In no way saying his career is over or anything of that nature. Just saying something needs to change before you ruin his head. I sat and watched him refuse to jump rhythms that dudes in 15th place in the LCQ were jumping. And he can’t stay on top of the whoops. He gets 1/2-3/4 way through and chops the throttle. He’s obviously extremely talented and has some sort of mental block going on. My experience with mental blocks is the harder you try the worse it gets. IMO it would be better to go home for a few weeks a reset. Bobby has proved he sticks behind his guys but also isn’t afraid of tough love(benching Jason, taking away Swols bikes for school stuff, etc.)

Not a great look. Especially for the gp’s. Hopefully he can turn it around a bit and put some better rides in.

He needs to completely adapt the way he rides and that is not going to happen overnight. Let's not forget bthe whole reason he left the US for Europe in the first place is because he knew he wasn't that good at Supercross. He's mentally strong though and he's smart enough to know that he isn't going to improve by riding over his head and wadding it up

people keep saying this, but it's nonsense. Exactly what SX has to do with the GP's seems to be lost on some folks.

They're evolving into completely different sports, and some people struggle to do one or the other. How many 250 SX winners have we seen struggle to get into the top 20 outdoors??? Happens every year...

On the other hand the GPs have been making the AMA nationals look like some 2nd tier series.

I have no idea what his training/practice program is but at this point he would surely benefit from riding with someone that can lead/guide/encourage him on an SX track. There are some retired guys out there that could really help him out. Canard or Tadesco come to mind.

Or Ricky Carmichael, I think he still has a track in Florida somewhere.

Covington actually hurt his knee at press day last week so that explains his DNQ in Arlington. Tried riding this week and then free practice earlier...

Makes significantly more sense.

Hiding injuries is so stupid. No one would have been giving him shit this week had he just come out and said that.

Hope he gets it fixed in time for MX. I really want to see him out there this summer.

He's had a lot of knee problems, hope this one is not surgical.
