Is it possible with the insane amount of snow (446 inches) mammoth has already gotten this year that Mammoth Mx could be canceled or moved due to the track not being ready? The ski resort is already planing on being open well into July. I know last year the track was basically a lake until the weeks or maybe days before the event kicked off, and they were able to get it ready but even then I don't think they had near the amount of snow to deal with. Has there ever been a year where they had to cancel or move the dates due to weather?

Kenworthy's was canceled a few times because the river flooded the track.

The track is much lower then the sky resort but still they have received an insane amount of snow. I highly doubt they run it this year. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are 147% snow pack with more storms coming.

About 150 miles south at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, 190 inches of snow has been recorded so far this month at the resort’s main lodge (elevation 8,909 feet), eclipsing a February record of 168 inches set in 1986, according to Lauren Burke, the resort’s spokeswoman. Snowfall records at Mammoth Mountain date back to the 1969-70 winter.

“It’s really hard to grasp the full scope of how much snow is in town and on the mountain until you see it,” Burke said. “There’s 15 to 20-foot tall snow banks around town. It’s been really incredible to see how much snow has actually piled up.”

The record was 668 inches and they still had the race so I think we’ll be fine. The track is lower than the resort so it clears faster. Lived there 12 years and the track would always clear up.

It seems there is a post like this every year. There will be another one in early spring when the track is like 90% under water. The race will still run.

I'll learn to drive a snow cat and go in there to dig the damn track out!

I'm only at 6200' and my only transportation the past 3 weeks has been snowshoes or snowmobile. I haven't put 30 miles on my truck since early December and I'm probably gonna be stuck here another 2-3 more weeks.

My first year there was in 81 and I do recall one year where the race was pushed later then June.

I just got back from Mammoth and yes there’s a lot of snow in town but it always seems to melt away.

NVHermit - how high is Virginia City, NV? Think the GP in late April is going to have some snow still? I'm all signed up for my first VCGP!

Virginia City, Lake Tahoe lake level and myself are all around 6200' and there could still be patches of snow in April.

It was a great February up there, not a record year for snowfall YET, in 2017 they actually pumped water off the track by th millions and track was awesome, a day or 2 after races were done track flooded again.

Yes, but don't tell Jeffro, he thinks I live in a cardboard shack in the desert.
