Would Eli sign a SX only contract at some point?

With the way he looks right now, he could have 3-4 more years of contending for SX titles. Wonder if he would think about taking the summers off and sign a SX only contract next year or the year after. He has plenty of MX titles. I’m sure he would like a few more SX titles.

I think they would all sign the “right” SX only contract .

I think if he races he races both. When he is done he will retire. If he wins SX and outdoors this season that is a heck of a career.

Good sx only contracts are hard to come by. After this mx season, which he is likely to win, he should have amassed a ton of $$. Why not just sail off into the sunset?

I could see Star giving him a SX only contract if he wants one some day. Let Ferandis lead the charge outdoors. Ferandis did not have a good SX year.

Could be a way to prolong his career if he wanted to.

Practically 90% of SX is the start and Eli is a way better starter on the Yamaha. At his current speed he could three peat SX championships like RV did.

In the press conference last night his words were if he feels he is still capable of winning, he will race.

If sx only keeps him riding and hes winning why not? I think hes still an mx specialist and would like to see him run up the moto wins too.

Gnarliest mf outdoors figures out how to play with the field indoors is still going to be the gnarliest mf outdoors. Every win from here out secures his childrens future. Note to star yamaha, if Eli tells you he wants something, trust him and do it

I swear I had heard he's already moving forward with his extra option year with Star for next season. Am I dreaming that or was that not official?

Of all the guys Tomac seems the LEAST likely to go SX only. Chad said he is an old-school rider but not just in his style IMO.

You can tell how much pride he takes in his 3 Outdoors championships and I believe that’s a result of him knowing how gnarly that series is and is part of what truly sets him apart from other guys, both current and older, who were SX specialists

Him, Anderson, and Cooper have talked to the world supercross guys.

I think the inevitable question is, when will he?

Think we need to chill on that. He’s still like 30 away and age will catch up to him at some point.

True, but when you look at the age of the current top ten in 450SX points, Chase Sexton is the only rider under age 26.

Eli is at the level that he can essentially sign whatever type of contract he wants. “If” he wants to do SX only, he will do SX only.

I hope you're wrong but outdoors certainly aren't as appealing from a $, workload and showbiz angles as indoors are.

No disrespect to sexton, AC or the like but I wouldn’t be surprised if those guys never collect a 450 title. The next generation of the Lawrence brothers, deegan, maybe ferry, difranscesco, Hymas etc are coming fast and aren’t going to leave much elbow room for AC and chase. No doubt they are fast but I think the younger generation will be able to go that fast without exploding every other race.

I heard them say it after Round 6 that he opted in. It was a while back already.

I think Eli can do both. For a while.
Me too. Age is just a number to people who love to train like Eli does. Tom Brady is way older than Eli and im pretty sure takes way more hits too. Eli has said hes racing till he feels he cant win. He has that fire in his blood and now just found a rejuvenation looks about 10 years younger 😂 The dude has won 5 straight and looks as good as he ever has. Ive seen Eli go beast mode enough times and do things i didnt think were possible. Im not doubting anything including 73 and he wouldnt have to go as old as Cairoli or Brayton to do it.

I know you said maybe ferry, but he doesn't belong on that list. He seems like a great kid though. I see ferry being like a Bogle best case(which is still an awesome career).

I know there was talks of him retiring, but I know he said he’s willing to keep racing as long as he feels he can win. I’d really like to see him for atleast 3 more years, but I know that is unlikely. He does seem very happy right now

Yea admittedly I don’t follows amateurs super close. Bogle was a regional champ still and like you said that’s still a great career.

Would have been cool to see what he could have done without all the injuries

I think he would absolutely come back next year. He has already opted into his contract for next year. If he wins SX and MX this year he is definitely coming back to the rock the big No. 1 on his bike!

I guess we'll see after outdoor season. 2 sx and 5mx titles in 450 is pretty damn good.

Post a reply to: Would Eli sign a SX only contract at some point?
