Nicely done vid from a 500cc ride day at a perfectly groomed Apex track. Feautering a couple of good (ex-GP) riders and don't miss the CR snapped in half...

For some reason, the embeded video wouldn't get included in the first post...

Nice! Braaaaaaap. I remember the talk about this event. I think Thorpe rode? I also think AJ had at least one of his bikes present, and the bike that broke wasn't his! Smile

Nice! man the roost they throw brings back memories they used to run the 125's with the 500's at saddleback, got my left nipple almost completely torn off from a rock roosted up by a yz490.

Wow! I want one.

Reminds me of being a kid with my dad and uncle thinking it was so funny to put me on the factory Huskys they had that were built for racing the GPs. I was only 8 years old. They put me on the YZ 400 at 6.

Such idiots, but one thing I do know how to do is ride open class bikes.

Doc, maybe you are thinking of the Vintage MXdN's held at Farleigh Castle in September (or not)? Dave Thorpe did an appereance there on one of his old GP-bikes.

I just stumbled across this vid yesterday and never heard of it before. Would have expected Rob Andrews to be doing the "event", since he lives next door to the track.

Sorry for the old rant, but as a motofan, I just cant' get over the missing of 2T sound at the races (and the smell). It just will never be the same again...

Kinda like going to the dragraces and having to listen to Fast & Furious stuff instead of +500cui V8's on steriods! Dizzy

That video is awesome!

Some of the folks riding include,

David Thorpe - Yellow #1 on a Honda CR500 in white gear.

Keith Ree - #2 Maico 500

Greg Hanson - #5 Honda CR500

Rob Herring - #555 on red jersey

Neil Berry - #74 on Maico 320

Scott Elderfield - #60 Honda CR500 - broke the frame (not a Service Honda!)

I just bought a CR500AF. Gen III CR125 frame with a 1998 CR500 motor in it. Should be a blast!

That was cool. Brought back some fond memories. I miss the sound of those things. There is nothing in the world better than riding a crisp running 500 on a loamy track. Thanks for sharing, and for the inspiration for a new cell phone ring tone.

"Keith Ree - #2 Maico 500" ....that's who that was? I saw the pipe on the opposite side and got a little confused like it was a reverse negative but since it is a Maico it makes sense.

500's are fun I remember riding my dad's 88 CR500 at Hangtown in the Summer ....bleh....only because my 93 CR250 was down, it was a beast for sure and took a while to get used to definitly have to respect the throttle and can't ride them aggressively or you will end up on your head LOL...... With the 500 engine producing so much HP and Torque it caused the old steel frames to flex so much from the power they really didn't handle all that well but I'd really like to try an AF conversion 97 and up to see what those bikes can do w/o twisting the frame and putting the Horsepower put to the ground.....One day I will have one for sure!
