My 6D helmet painted by Lee Helliwell of Hellion Designs. And I'll post my Moto 9 Flex when I get it back from him.

Enjoy. And Merry Christmas.

Shane is it cool if I ask what you do for a living? You have some cool stuff! No disrespect and feel free to not answer if you don't feel the need. Happy Holidays!

I'm a big fan of the USA themed helmet Webb and Martin wore at MXoN.

You're always welcome to ask anything you'd like. I'm pretty open, and don't mind. My career is as a firefighter/paramedic. My schedule allows me to work a couple of days a week in a shop as well, which certainly helps with getting some of the cool stuff.

I'm also fortunate that my wife makes a very good living, so between the two of us we are able to enjoy some additional things. Along the way, we've been able to plan and have some decent investments.

Sadly, all of the cool things comes at the expense of my not being as fast as I once was. Instead of spending every moment at the track, I was working on making good decisions that would pay off later.

I take it as a compliment that I have some cool stuff. I've just been fortunate over the years to land on my feet and to have a wife that tolerates my adventures.

Happy Holidays to you as well!

It's been good. Still more recovery to be had though. I have enough range of motion to be "functional," which allowed me to return to work. My knee feels pretty good minus the lost range of motion that will slowly come back. Still fighting a bit with arthritis due to a previous injury in my ankle that sank it's teeth in while I was off my leg. It's slowly getting there. Had a couple of cortisone injections so far. It seems like we may have to do a debridement sometime next year and clean it out. Hopefully my activity then will keep the arthritis away like it had been before my leg.

On an important note, I still haven't gotten back on the bike. Looking at spring most likely for that to happen. But I did manage to put a pair of boots on and my leg/ankle felt well in them. That's a good sign! I can't wait to ride once again! My bike taunts me every day. Not sure what I'd get myself into if I couldn't go back to riding.

very nice work HB! It's a hell of a lot more time consuming than you would think, huh?

Yeah no doubt. I don't see how anyone can make money at it. Especially when everyone wants a "hook up"

for sure. I see why places like Troy Lee charge like $750 for a complicated custom paint job. The amount of time spent is crazy. Wouldn't be worth your time if you were only charging a couple hundred or so

let me ask you this - what was your technique for getting the nice thin white pinstripe around the green letters in the rear?

Probably a quill or a liner brush using 1-shot.

Thats how I'd do it anyway.

It seems so crisp that I'm guessing he masked off the whole area of the letters, then sprayed the black, then peeled off the mask, ran pinstriping around the outer edge of the letters, sprayed the green, then pulled off the pinstripe mask to reveal the white.

I had the local sign shop make me stencil decals. So I put down the outline decal for my last name (Hood), clover outline, pretty much everything that is white. Helmet was solid white. Then sprayed green and taped all that up. Then sprayed blue and taped all that up then done the black at the end. Blue outline and white pen stripe was all fine line tape.

I always really liked Doug Henry's angry carb helmets. Wish I could find one.

Also think I just dated myself...

Not a moto helmet but i love the James Hunt one off helmet that Kimi wore at the Monaco GP a few years back. Great way to honor Hunt!

Bubba 2008 red bull Helmet with crystals everywhere on it was pretty badass. Can't find any pics of it, they had it displayed last year at iron man national.
