Wanting to buy a helmet cam - 2 obvious choices: Contour or GoPro.

I believe they're both made well; just wondering if there are absolute stand-out points to raise one above the other.

The ContourGPS is really interesting too - adds another level of "gadget cool" that the GoPro doesn't have. And you can pair it with your iPhone to use as a view-finder-sight.

But you can buy the ContourHD 1080 for $120. Hard to argue with that.

A couple friends have the Contour and mount it on their goggles, but I'm not a big fan of that perspective. Obviously there are other mounting options too.

Any recommendations, please let me know.

I've liked the GoPro that I've used. No problems with it, other than it breaking a base mount once in a crash. I also usually just use the pads once and have to take it off and use another pad the next time, rather than having a dedicated helmet.

Highly suggest the Gopro. Ive never seen Contour footage that even looked good... Gopro seems to be WAY ahead of the game right now.

Ok but WHY? What makes the Contour better?

I have the ContourHD, I love it. Easy to use even with gloves on, just turn it on listen for the beep, hit record and listen for the beep. Very straight forward, almost effortless. The GP you have to see the leds or your not sure, hard to use with gloves on (and looks like a brick on your head...lol).
But video looks good from both.

The GoPro beeps when you start record, and also beeps when stop record. The two beep tones are different so you know whether you`ve started recording or stopped.

The GoPro is easy peasy too use with gloves on.

I have never used the Contour.

I've got a contour but only an older one that only records 720p. Still good to see footage though so can't complain. Very simple to use like a guy above me said, its a huge switch you slide and wait for the beep.

A couple of my friends have GoPro's and the footage is amazing, the only problem is its hard to tell whether you're recording or not and because it has a whole heap of features if you aren't to great with technology it can be a slight pain working out what mode you're recording.

From what I've seen with the Contour, the wind noise is very annoying. That is a very big turn off for me. GoPro is a little large and awkward looking, but for my needs it is the best.

I had that problem at first, the microphone is just a tiny little whole. So I just got a little square of electrical tape and put it over it, that seemed to take it away really good. Terrible self promotion but this is what my 720p one sounds like with my little mod

Another thing I hate is the side mount. I hate looking at the helmet in the videos. I feel like I'm in a sidecar riding along with someone.

x 1000 on the sidecar call

My GoPro was noisy also, The mount between the base pad and the bottom of the GoPro was making a racket, i put some foam in there to keep it quite, works a treat.

Do you have the rubber insert that goes into the channel at the base? It keeps the camera secure and has less squeaking.
