So my Doc at the Veterans hospital I see since being injured years ago has been on my ass latley about getting in shape.. I caught a peice od shrapnel and turned out I lost alot of blood and had blood pushed back into me in a dirty enviroment (Somolia).Over the last 2 years I went from 6'4 220lbs to 6'4 265 lbs..High cholostrol, blood pressure and diabetes runs in the family.I been riding every week trying to burn calories and the gain in weight is do to there meds they gave me..Very strong antibiotics that was retaining water..
I talked to Greg Hammond over at Concept 2 and ended up ordering a Concept 2 Rowing machine. I have a 3k treadmill that I cant stand using im bored of it in 5 minutes, im thinking the rower will be a little more entertaining and keep me at it.
Anyone have any insight on those rowers and how they liked them.I have a personal goal starting next week when I get that thing to be 230lbs by November and 220 lbs by Dec 31st. I can do it I know I will but id like to here some input on those rowers..Greg said he just got Dungey and Canard one and almost 50% of the pros are using them.
thanks

I think it's the most intense piece of cardio equipment out there.
I'm sure Greg hooked up you.
racerxvt.com has some good routines for rowing on their site.
Seriously, it's a great workout - but like anything, the more effort you put in it, the more results you'll get out. Good luck.
However, I have had two different specialists/sport doctors tell me the rowing machine would be a better fit for me for MX. Nothing else works your upper back and sholders while providing that kind of cardio. So I am looking for a used one right now.
The TV advice is dead on. We added a TV to our exercise room with a DVR. Thats the room I record all my sports on. You feel stupid sitting on a machine just to watch the Nationsla, so you may as well work out!
The treadmill got to be dangerous. I kept leaning as I watched the riders turn. Not good.
At the moment it's about 20 minutes jogging, 2km row at around 2min per 500m, and then spin bike for 15/20 Mins which has some sprints in it that normally occur on the chorus of a good song.
If I didn't have good music then I couldn't do have that stuff.
You will love it. I personally cant wait for mine cuz the holiday redbull/vodka has caught up w/my old a$$.
Happy New Year everybody.
Btw.....thank you for your service , and I'm really sorry to hear about the shrapnel in your leg. This sounds like it's an ongoing fight with it still causing infections? Did they get the rest of the shrapnel out? I wish you the best man , and keep at it with the workouts!!
500m row at 2 minute pace followed immediately by 1/2 mile run on treadmill at 7 minute/mile pace.
Try 4 sets with no break and see how you feel. If needed back off the pace so that you complete all 4 sets of row / run combos.
I have used this successfully for the last 3 years with moto athletes and soccer players( and myself).
After some time up the rowing to 1000m and the run to 1 mile per set.
Sorry, I forgot to give Jane the obligatory "STFU Noob". Guess I'm slipping.
