Do any of you guys find yourself completely sucking on a mountain bike compared to a dirt bike? I'm a mid level A rider but put me on a mountain bike and my 9 year old kicks my ass. I know it's 2 different sports, but I thought some skills would transfer. Not in my case.

For me when on my MTB while going down hills with some momentum, I feel that I use a motocross technique(standing, weight back, elbows up, looking ahead).
When climbing hills, that's when the proper gear selection, pedaling technique, riding position, and obviously leg power comes into play purely from MTB technique.
I haven't hit the mtb trails in a year or two. I need to get back after it.
I think I developed the same problem I rode with my friends by our selves from the age of 7 I'm pretty sure I've developed a fear from jumps because of this.
So a full practice track day spooked me a bit, and I had more than enough close calls and a few decent crashes due to other people's dumb track decisions. Not even a plastic trophy at stake and people being dopey, unexperienced or outright aggro because they've got a tiny dick.
The days where it was empty, i'd push way harder and have more fun. Some of it is perspective, I don't wanna take unneeded risks with three people relying on me, so it just turned into a mental trade I couldn't make.

One thing is make sure you have the right bike for the type of riding you're doing. The enduro..isshh bike are doing everything good. But the suspension on mountain bike are really limited compared to the MX. I can't believe how simply are the suspension compare to MX.
If you don't feel comfortable try a + bike wich have bigger tire. A lot of peoples will say it's a girl size but it give a lot of confidence. It did the work for me.
Was riding yesterday and haven't been on this trail in 10 years, came across some bmx rhythms. Said screw it, lets knock off some dust!
Probably the only dork doing jumps with a HR monitor on.

Most of the guys I used to ride MTB with came from road cycling. They would cane me on the flat trails but as soon as it got technical I would pass them back easily.
