Common Oil to use in everything?

5/1/2020 6:48am Edited Date/Time 5/2/2020 9:52pm
I want a common oil to run in everything in my barn/garage, mostly.

I still run my CRF w MOTUL, but for all the low performance KFX, CRF50 and CRF70, Zero turn mowers, diesel tractor.

Reason I ask is Im about to buy some more Rotella T6 full synthetic 5W40 for my diesel tractor, and Im reading lots of guys run that in everything they own. Im just getting sick of having a specific oil for each of the 10+ machines.

I think you are fine running rotella in pretty much everything. I used T6 in a fully built TLR engine back in the day and never had any issues with it.

I run vegetable oil in everything. Burns very well not a lot of build up.

If you really want a single oil in all of those machines, a diesel oil like rotella is going to be your best bet considering the diesel tractor you mentioned. However, I'd venture a guess you'll get more bang for your buck with a non-synthetic or semi-synthetic options.

I like extra virgin olive oil. Has a higher smoke point.

Your 5W-40 will work just fine in the low-performance play bikes. If Rotella is made for diesel engines specifically, it has some additional additives in it that will soak up the sulfur, but they won't harm your engine.

Rotella is all I use in my 2 stroke race bike.

Ehhh.... I dunno.... I use Rotella T6 in the KX250F but in the KTM 250 SX-F which has a Williams motor I like Motorex just because. I hate T6 in a 2 stroke gearbox. ATF Type F there. We use Motorex Cross Power 2T at 40:1 in the Husky TC 125, KTM 150 XC-W, and 150 SX. After trying Lucas, Klotz R-50 50:! and Techniplate, Yamalube 2R, and Maxima Super M, we like Motorex the best.

So, that's not "one oil to bind them all" but it IS just 4 oils.

And FWIW, I use T6 in our hard-working Yamaha Grizzly 660, Grizzly 450, former Polaris Ranger and current Kawi Mule. And our '96 Ford F250 with blow-by.

My guess is the “I tried Rotella and shifting sucked” people are talking about T6.

Rotella T4 15w40 is what you want. Rotella “T” had been the gold standard for a long time and T4 is the new T.

I run Delo 15w-40 in everything. I have ran in my lawn mower, pressure washer, generator, 350sxf, PW50, KTM 65, DRZ70 and my Duramax. Everything but the wife’s Traverse gets Delo. I would have no problem running Rotella, but my Costco sells Dell only for 38.99 for 3 gallons.

I find coconut oil the best, this doesn't run anywhere let alone off yr critical parts. Once up to temp shea a good 5weight. Starts off at 1000weight..

I use T6, the blue jug, in everything I own... no issues... it is Jaso Ma/Ma2 rated.... that means safe for wet clutch applications. Several 450”s with 100 plus hrs, never an issue top or bottom.

Bullshit, no oil is going to make your clutch slip unless it's already on its way out. Some people on here... I've ran yamalube, rotella T6, T4, walmart brand, valvoline, lucas simi and full synthetic, and belray. Only issue I've ever had was the Belray simi synthetic started gelling up on a super hot desert ride. That's when I moved to the rotella's and never looked back.

Definitely some kind of vegetable oil. I'm not going to put rotella in my deep fryer, or diesel fuel tanks. This should really be a no brainier.

Man, lately I've been using coconut oil on high heat and it rules!
I still take the batteries out of the smoke alarm, though. The place is
a lot quieter that way.
