Yamaha was also running a television commercial with those three at the time if I remember correctly.

Yamaha was killing it during that era in terms of their ads.

Those were the glory days, bike sales were at an all time high and the $ spent on major ad agencies was a reflection of that.

How about that one where RJ w Fox, sitting on the rock “think about it” (no Jersey/pants on, just Fox boots) then he switched gear companies and did the same rock pic w his new gear “thought about it” w JT gear on! Classic, tho Seemed like a slap to Fox. I’m no skills computer wise, can someone post those? Thanks in advance.

They were also killing it in the MXA bike shootouts around that time. So many people are still butthurt over those years and still call MXA Yamacross Action. Funny thing was, while the Yamahas were winning the shootouts they hardly excelled at any of the categories they scored them on. It's just that the Yamahas did everything good where the others were great in one area but sucked in another. Of course before that they were Hondacross Action and now KTM Action...

Because a rock in the finger can cost you the title..

Fox ads back then were awesome. The "What's Stopping You?" has to be at or near the top of any list along with the "Dream On" ads.

Good thread...

Huge RJ fan and have listened to most podcasts and whatever over the years.... but why did Fox let me go for 89 after 3 years of championships and arguably being the #1 guy in the world? Was it just money? I can’t remember...maybe Fox had Bradshaw coming up and Chicken and didn’t want to pay the big money. I vaguely recall reading in SuperMotoCross that there was a bidding war....maybe Hondaline was involved too. Personally always thought the 89 RJ JT look was never as cool as the Fox years...and he wore those weird JT ATV protectors with only a half front that looked bogus.

Honda was in a legal battle with fox and Honda said no to rj wearing fox. Honda was launching their own brand tx10 that all factory riders were contracted to but rj was fighting that even though money was comparable. Somehow out of left field jt ssid fuk it and gambled and Honda allowed it as they didn’t have jt on the bad guy radar. Really didn’t matter as March it was over for rj and the Honda tx10 guys cleaned up!!

With the success of Honda in 1974/75 I was floored by this ad, why would he switch to Yamaha. Hanging his Honda jersey in the locker was classic!
