This is my look back at Honda's awesome ground-pounder for 1985.

Good stuff Tony. Have a friend that had an ‘85 CR500R when they were current. We’d go to Pismo Beach in the sand dunes and that thing was an absolute animal. I was “slumming” on my ‘83 480. Tongue Oh yeah, we were only 17! Good times.

A good friend raced an 85 CR5 in the 80’s & I was fortunate enough to ride one of these iconic beasts. It was a handful as a 19 yr. old 185 lb. teenager. It felt like a mule kicked you when the power came on. I had been kicked by one in my early teens so I was able to relate to the feel of it. 😎

Used to love watching the ABC Superbikers and Magoo had the production based '85 CR500 making sweet music!

I did one on the 1987 KTM 250 about a month ago. :-)

I had an 84.
Woods beast if you could keep the rear brakes in check.
There wasn't a gully anywhere you couldn't get out of , and it ALWAYS ran.

I loved playing with MXers occasionally. 3rd gear WFO start... see ya. Yeah they'd pass me before the lap was done, but I got mine.

Sold mine to a Harley guy who wanted to try moto. He called me 30 minutes later to come by his place to get it lit off for him. I left.

Called back about an hour or so later. He was very excited. Told me he was able to get it started. Just had to have his son there to keep it running while he re-installed the RH foot peg.

Once you learned the drill, they would start most of the time fairly easily.
