The Shop
It was the first 125 that I really felt comfortable trying to go fast on, and definitely made me a more confident rider/racer.
I owned mine for a season and then sold it to my brother. Unfortunately it was stolen from our barn not long after.
I was lucky enough to score mine in March 1985 from a local A rider who got 2 bikes per year from Grove Kawasaki of Ft Dodge, Iowa. I paid $800 for it and raced it in 1985. That year Chad Pederson was still on Honda 80's in Iowa and the amateur circuit and Denny Stephenson was running an 85' KX80 and later in the year some on a 85 KX125. Both these guys ran some district 22.
This is the mx bike I wish I never would've sold. So many great memories.
Seems like it was bel ray that would cause the teflon (?) Bearing holders to disinigrate.
other than that they were awesome little bikes that took advantage of Honda having an off year in 1984.
Even yamaha, which was the horsepower king in the 125 class in '83 lost out to the '84 kx 125.
Ergonomics were definitely more suited for Jeff ward then somebody taller
I was 6' and raced a buddies kx a couple times. I felt really cramped on it compared to my '83 yz
