This is my look back at Honda's iconic Red Rooster, the all-new for 1978 CR250R Elsinore. This bike was a major step forward for the brand after 3 years of retread designs. This Type II replica CR was the first Honda motocrosser to bear the "R" designation and a huge step in performance and technology from previous Honda efforts.

Classic Steel #33: 1978 Honda CR250R Elsinore
The Shop
Does anybody remember them changing the crank bearing from 78 to 79? In the 79 engine I think the crank bearing cage was a plastic material that synthetic oil would destroy and the crank would not stay concentric to the seals and it would suck air and lean out. My 79 gave it up the last race of the Florida winter series. The fix was just to put in 78 steel caged bearing. Any body remember that. God dam that was a long time ago.
