I own a 2020 yz250 and I want to get white/black graphics and plastics but it would look bad with the blue tank, I came across the Clarke gas tanks but I read mixed reviews on them, has anybody had experience with this brand?

In 2016 & 17 I restored/rebuilt a 2004 YZ250 and I wanted to do a “tribute” to the late 80’s YZ I had all through that era. I was in the same predicament as you with the blue tank issue. I took the plunge and ordered up a white Clarke tank in the stock capacity. When it arrived I did note an ever so slight difference in the shade of white, but it was so close that it wasn’t a problem for me! I was building the bike to ride & race in vintage events and was happy with the product! The fit was the same as the stock tank, the purchase included a black gas cap and the petcock assembly bolted right up!

On final assembly at completion of the rebuild, I installed all the white plastic and retro YZ decals along with a red CEET seat cover and was 100% happy with the final result!
I never had any issues of any kind with the tank and based on my experience with this tank I would definitely buy another Clarke product if needed!
Good luck with your decision and I hope you’re decision results in a result as positive as mine was!
Keep us posted on your progress and post up a pic or two if/when you get your project completed! Cheers! RP

I have owned quite a few Clarke tanks in the clear flavor and one was DRZ blue. All tanks were great. They fit perfectly and there were never any fuel leaks.

I had two tanks on my 06 yz125 and yz250.
The issue you will have is the rubber tank pads on the frame. Tank was designed for the steel frame so it rubbed this on spot on the frame.

One spot on the rubber tank pad does it matter. No but it does happen a little bit. Doesn't affect anything structural or visually. The stock gas cap works on it fine. Ran them for 14 years no problem.
This is my 06 when I sold it last year.

Just don't run their gas caps. I've been through 2 plastic Clarke caps... They start cracking and splitting anywhere between 8 months to a year from my experience so far.

Based on the above reply, I'll just try running a stocker. Didn't think the threads were right, but apparently I'm wrong.

Oh cool, another excuse to share my build. I put this on my steel frame Yz. I used some softer foam pads for in between the frame and tank. It worked out fine for me.

I've never had one of the stock size ones but I've had several of the bigger size ones they offer over the years. Fit and finish is always good, never any issues.

I wouldn't be afraid to order something from them, they've been in the tank game a LONG time.

Great job man! Vintage tribute bikes with black rims look badass.

We have sold and used a lot of Clarke tanks. They are great. No worries.

I ran an oversize one on a KX500 for a few years, never any issues except as stated above about the gas cap. When my cap started getting wonky I called them to get another one and they sent me 2 for free. Sure can't complain about the customer service.

Top notch company for sure. They sponsored me back in the early 2000's when I was racing 2 stroke KX's and their tanks were always better looking and fitting than the IMS tanks of the time.

Has anyone ever had issues with petcock fitment on a Clarke tank? I bought one for my RM and the bottom, where the petcock mounts, isnt flat and the gasket they send with the tank doesnt seal properly and leaks fuel. If anyone has experienced this issue, how did you fix it? I just ended up putting my stock tank back on for the time being.

Spend up and get an alloy tank. Then run whatever you want. Everything matches. Do it.
