Do any of you guys have this going on in your neck of the woods. My local track started doing this in the last couple years and so far it works pretty good. It's 1 guy who makes the decisions and he actually knows what he is doing and does a good job with it but it is all city funded. Of course you have to pay for practice days and all that jazz though. Just curious what others experiences are.

The local track in Tucson, MC Motorsports Park, is on county owned land adjacent to the county fairgrounds. As I understand it, the track was built with country and state grant money. They did a good job. It has nice lighting, permanent buildings, and a good well and storage tank. After the original build, the county essentially leases the facility to the best bidder to operate it.

Just about every OHV area in California has a a few tracks that are maintained.

$5 per van/camper/truck load and you can ride all day. For another $5 you can camp out at some of the OHV areas.

In addition to that Hollister, Metcalf and Carnegie have full on racetracks that get ripped, watered etc for racing and practice days.

That is unheard of in the Northeast where I first started riding...

I know of a track that was once funded by the city. I believe they are not getting subsidies anymore though. I know of a few tracks that are built on city land.

The track here in Anchorage is on city park land, but is operated by the local racing club. The only time the track sees a dozer is on the Saturday before a raceday, and on Sunday during the lunch break. It's pretty brutal by Friday, having had the previous weekend's racing and a weeks worth of practicing on it.

So how many of these tracks have the city or county fork out the money for track prep.

I'm just kinda curious cause this is really a new thing for my area and basically unheard of. From what I have been told our track only lost about $10,000 last year when the city ran it. Which sounds like a lot of money until you think about other parks that the city runs. None of the generate money. All you do with a typical park is pay for it all the time. (Lawn mowing, trash pickup etc)

I worked In Pueblo CO for a month a couple years ago. They had a free city track right in town. It really sucked but you get what you pay for I guess.

Couple of woods areas around here get state P&W funding. I've only ridden Trophy Club in nearby Grapevine, but it's not bad. Six mile (so they say) super tight woods trail loops, an MX/SX track of sorts and a kids' peewee area. They hold some off-road events there. It was packed the day we went. Barnwell Mountain is the other one we want to try. They run some TSEC enduros there.
