Chad Reed refused to sign replica front plate made by factory Fx

2/28/2020 8:31pm Edited Date/Time 2/29/2020 8:59pm
My 12 year old nephew stood in line to see Chad Reed tonight in Atlanta to get a Replica Kawasaki Lucas oil #22 front plate made by factory FX signed and Chad Reed refused to sign it. “I can’t sign this, I’m sorry.” Then his entourage questioned me about who and where I bought the plate from. Any one know why Reed would refuse to sign a plate in his final year of racing? I can’t understand what the issue is?

Maybe he realized that it was a replica, and didn't want someone to pass it off as a real thing?

All they said was “he can’t sign that and no one is supposed to sell them” I never got a straight answer as to why though.

I think the key word here is "Replica".

Perhaps just kinda sucked for the kid ya know? Especially since this is Reeds last year. Tomac and Roczen both happily signed replicas and I even had a authentic plate from a Florida National last year and Tomac seemed interesting in it and wanted to know which race it was from.

I think Matthes mentioned in a podcast that Roczen doesn't sign numberplates either because people sell them off on eBay as the real deal for profit.

Roczen stopped to sign a replica I had as well as my friends even as he was being ushered out the door. Super cool guy.

I feel like there were some politics behind it. I can’t imagine Reed being that stuck up. But idk, sucks cause I’ve watched him race and been a fan ever since I was little

Because he's a prick. Anyone remember the KX250 deal. St Jude was the loser on that one.

Well i don't think that anyone of the riders would want to deny a kid or a fan a signed number plate. But people take advantage of it. Buys 5 Polisport/UFO/Acerbis/Cycra number plates, prints replica numbers, gets them signed and sells them for profit.

It's understandable that the riders or the teams doesn't want to feed that "market". The losers in the situation are genuine fans and kids that look up to the riders, it sucks.

Not at all, always been a CR22 fan just trying to find out the backstory on why he doesn’t sign plates.

Is the profit margin that great for a rider signature ?
Hell no. Reed signature might be worth $50. So reed is really just being reed. I played a pro sport and i knew lots of guys like reed

The other day I talked about looking at a user's posting history when trying to figure out their motivation on why they post something in particular. In James_Stewart's case, nearly every post is about buying some kind of memorabilia.

Huge profit margin but anyone could just as easily post one of the generic posters they sign or a random Jersey with his signature on it (that he was signing at the event) for sale so I’m not sure what the difference is. And for what it’s worth, this plate was just for memories and wall art in the garage. Never intended to re sell for profit.

Yeah I was looking for memorabilia. Mainly Stewart jerseys. I love collecting motocross stuff but I’ve certainly never sold anything. I’m heavily involved in the sport and enjoy having keepsakes and conversation pieces.

Memorabilia is a legit buisness. Bought and sold everyday. Reed has made millions off this country but seems it would belittle him to give $200 back?
