After burning my pants a few times, I decided to get a thermal barrier coating applied to my stock header.
I used https://www.centralctcoatings.com as a source, cost $95 to coat the ID & OD of header, and the stock heat shield. I was concerned about getting grit caught in the resonance chamber during the prep, but they masked it and prevented that from happening.

For each temp reading, I ran the bike up and down the street, then let it idle for 1 minute.
Using a laser temperature gun, the temperature of the header without coating at the exit location in pic approx 3” from the cylinder was 561 deg F.
The temperature reading of the coated header in the same location was 394 deg F.
Put an 90 minutes in at the track, and noticed there was less heat coming off the bike when sitting at idle. I couldn’t tell if the the power changed, since I had the ECU remapped at the same time. The coating lost its gloss finish at the front of the header, turning to a flat silver finish, but appeared intact, with no peeling, bubbling or disbonding.
I’d recommend the coating, if for no other reason it could reduce burning someone’s skin in the event of a crash or pileup of a hot exhaust on a downed rider.

I’ve got a set of 15 year old, 60,000 mile headers on an old tow rig truck with the same type of coating, it looks just like your header still. That’s a great product, it works and holds up for the long haul.

That's a great idea, I wasted a few pair of pants on my KX header. Plus it looks much better than the wraps that some put on them.
