I missed this EPIC event back in 2010. Never been to Catalina Island. Very happy to see its return later this year 2020. PINGREE get your entry ready, I remember your RACERX article about racing this a decade ago!

Will be there as a spectator also. We should all hop on the same Catalina Express and cruise on over. From what I remember there is a bar on board...

Hotel and ferry space is limited. Once dates are finalized they will book out quick.

In 1952 Nick Nicholson swept both the 250 and 500 classes on his BSA's
...back when Men had to Man-Up
...just to carry the trophy

Wonder if he’ll be on a JCR/Monster Honda this year?

Yeah, hopefully the date won't conflict with any rally events.

This is the best news this year
Dedinitely. We visited Catalina one weekend. Primitive tent camping was around as much as a regular hotel anywhere else. I wouldn't miss it for the world though. I hope they add three wheeler classes. I will definitely be there. Ibiust hope it doesn't conflict with the Elsinore Grand Prix

Very cool news.

I hope the date works so all the big guns on the West Coast can show up.

Does anyone have any idea of the entry fee from 2010? And how much it was to ship bikes etc.

This has been a bucket list item ever since i moved here in 2015, so i definitely want to race. Can anyone tell me what classes they had back in 2010, how long the course is, and how much it costs?

If the course is less than 30 miles, i might be able to race my Alta. If its longer, i might have to bring 2 bikes and swap halfway. Or i'll just outfit my KX450 for GP.

There is an actual Catalina wine mixer. We went last year. It was in September on Catalina island. It was a ton of fun. They had a bunch of bands, wine, breweries. and then late at night on Saturday they showed Step Brothers in a big theater. It was a ton of fun.

Haha it feels good to finally win a title or two. Im working on a bigger motor now for the mini bike class. 190cc's in a 1973 z50 frame. What could go wrong? I hope I can do vintage and modern classes at Catalina.

Just need Red Bull to step back in as title sponsor and everything will be good. Can't imagine it happening without them.

UPDATE: The Island Company would like to make it clear that the 2020 Catalina Island Grand Prix event has not been confirmed.

The Island Company issued the following statement:

Please be advised that your January 27th, 2020 announcement that the Catalina Island Grand Prix is returning in November of 2020 is incorrect. The event is not confirmed.

Preliminary discussions are underway with the City of Avalon, The Catalina Island Company and others, over the possibility of the event occurring. Both the city and Island Company have stated that they are open to the concept, but no terms have been finalized. Further, many other details, including potential sponsors, insurance, entitlements, environmental matters and more, will need to be discussed and worked through.

In order to ensure that open and positive discussions continue with all the necessary parties that are working to help this event occur, it is extremely important that you immediately inform your readers of the correct facts surrounding this potential event.
