Clean-ish looking ‘06 CR250. $2700. No title. The guy says he’s had it for years. Previous owner was supposed to get him the title but never came through.

Is it worth $2700 without a title?

That's a pretty solid deal. Just run the vin before you buy it.
I picked this 06 up for 1900.00. It's not as clean as that one but I have a guy who wants me to sell it to him for 2500. Photo

Call the DMV with the VIN, have them check to see if there are any outstanding loans or repossessions on the bike. That's what they'll do if you apply for a lost title (among other things). I had a guy this year tell me he lost the title, turns out the title was repossessed by the bank because he stopped making payments. Had I believed him and bought it the bank would have thanked me for finding their property and taken it from me.

Also the police should be able to (and have to for new title) run a stolen vehicle search on the VIN, but I think they have to do that in person with the bike.

My opinion, not worth it. Not that great of condition, cylinder ruined with an overbore you have to deal with. I would not worry about a title on a 12 year old bike. At least not in Texas. Id say $2200-$2300. If it was a mint 2007...yeah $2700.

Saw a brand new ‘05 CR250 on Facebook last night. Owner was asking $6000.

Pass - its not in great shape and its missing the title. With a title I would say that bike is worth about $2,000 - $2,200. Without the title assuming it passes a VIN check and is not stolen I would say take off about $400.

See if the guy can send you a pic of the VIN. If he does with no issue , it could be worth it if you're interested in the drive. If he doesn't , or back peddle's in any way....stay clear.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

The big bore is fine. It's a 265. Especially for that area and if its the Pro Circuit 265. If it was a 310 or 325, I'd put it back to stock.

My post is my opinion. If you don't agree with it, I'm OK with it.

Hey one more thing to consider here. Go up to Motosport's Hillsboro , talk to one of the guy's in there and have them send you over to the Annex building. It's over behind the airport down 25th ave ( same road Burgerville sit's on ) down past the airsoft place. That building is loaded with a TON of bikes. Pretty much every bike made is in that place , and you might be surprised on what you find.

I found this gem , 2005 RM 250 with about 4 hrs on it , in there about 1.5 years ago for $3500.00.

Agree. For 15cc's it really isn't worth the slight gains that can be had.

Someone must have thought it was a good deal. Was up for a day, now it’s gone.

Thanks, everyone, for the input!

I've only seen a couple 05-07 cr's come up in our area the last couple years. Are you checking ksl as well?

After a failed ring took out the plating on my cylinder and along with a small chunk of the aluminum, I had Tom Morgan off-center bore my 2003 CR250 cylinder to 265cc, and do stage 1 porting. The bike ran phenomenal, alot like a new YZ250 (which I own now) gave it more bottom, and mid, without taking anything away from the top end.

I don't know that it's the best performance for the dollar if you have a healthy cylinder though. If you have to replate your cylinder it's really not much extra to get it done though.

I'd rather push my two stroke than ride a four stroke!

Yeah, it's by far the most used site in Utah. I have found and purchased bikes from Idaho and Montana from it even

I'm not sure if you're the same member as the poster on this TT thread, but they both post similiar gains on their CR250's with TMR mods.. I later talked to the poster Larry247 & he did say the gains were mostly low-mid with the same topend as stock. As mentioned I don't believe the extra 15cc's warrant the overbore for the same power increase. In your case I understand why you did it, but it's not necessary.

I was suppose to put in a ride with Lary247 at the Hangtown track & another guy I sold an 06 model that had Varner mods. We were going to do a comparison on all 3 bikes for the fun of it & unfortunately it never happened.

Finally got to ride it. The motor is tremendously more responsive than stock. Slight power increase throughout the rpm range but not an excessive hp increase. I notice the mods mostly at lower rpm's. Power is very smooth and roll-on-able, if I may make up my own terms haha.

All in all, the bike is very crisp. A lot less clutch work in the corners and instant throttle response. For what it's worth, I'll never ride a standard engine again.

Hope this helps.

Stock bore? I had him do mine to 265cc. I'd say the same that he fixes the number one problem with the CR's which is part throttle situations, rolling on or off the throttle is something the stock bike could not do. It's a way faster, way more rideable motorcycle after he's done with it. After having his work done to my '03 and after buying a new yz250, I have no interest in wasting time with any stock 02-07 Cr250 engine ever again. They're just straight up wrong from the factory. Now the chassis on the other hand.. it's awesome

BTW - With just a Doma pipe & optimal jetting on a PWK the 02-03 CR's have similiar lowend power to the YZ. The 05-07's actually feel as strong in the low-mid with a PWK as well. With the right mods they have similiar low end with the mid-top overev no comparison to the CR.
