Just picked up a Ford Transit 350XLT medium roof. Trying to get some good ideas on how to secure the bikes in the van. I have the passenger version also. Going to leave the front row of passenger seats in and pull all the others.

Kind of leaning toward the Risk Racing pro lock and loads. Would really like something I can place aside when not in use to free up floor space. Will be hauling a 450 and a 85. Probably a pit bike on race days also. Looking for some opinions. Thanks

I loved the bike shoe in my trailer
I know the vans have less room but if possible I highly recommend them
Very simple to load and unload

I have the same van and use Bolt It On. Little pricey but it works perfectly and I can go from motovan to 12 passenger in under 10 minutes. No drilling or cutting just pop the seats out and clip it in and comes with tie down points and up to 3 bikes.

Also It’s set up to run as a 5 passenger van with the second row installed and 3 bikes.

I just checked that out! That looks like a really nice setup. Can you fit 3 bikes no problem?

One tie dow from the D ring in the back to the foot peg and the D rings in the front to the handle bars. Works perfect.

That's what I do as well. VW Transporter. Even do it with 2 bikes sometimes -- one facing front, one back. Works awesome and so simple.

Yes I got the shorty twist so it rotates the front wheels on the outside bikes 60° so the bars don’t touch and frees up more space

The risk racing units take up a lot of floor space. Attach a mounting bracket/loop for a strap on the side wall around the height of the seat. Use a ratchet strap around the frame and zip tie the front brake. This will hold the bike tight up against the wall. I also use a strap around the fork tube to help pull it forward that mounts to the wall I built. I fit 3 big bikes in ford e250 short cab with ease. The 3Rd bike goes in backwards and uses the same mounting brackets/loops.

Love that setup. Is that a Sprinter or a Transit? I can't ID the bumper style.

How’s the reliability been on the Nissan?

Great so far. I bought it used with 120k on it. It now has 150K on it (18 months later) and I've had no trouble. I just got back from a 2400 mile trip to Texas and it did great. I drive it fast too, mostly 70 to 85 mph. The V6 doesn't lack much power, I think it has 300hp.

D rings and turnbuckles. Get carabiners for each end of the turnbuckles and snap to the foot peg and the D ring. Tighten and you're good to go.

I've had both the bike shoes and the Lock-N-Load Pros. Would definitely rate the lock n loads higher. Bike shoes are annoying as they are bolted permanently in place and are super easy to bang your shins on and quite painful. Since they hold the bike by the front wheel the bike still sways around a lot on bumpy roads. When I had them in my van I still used straps as well lightly on the bars to keep the bikes from swaying and banging into the walls of the van. I did eventually rig a way to mount them on Pingel quik-mounts but it was not simple/easy enough to make it worth trying to pull them in and out each time at the track. The Lock-N-Load Pros are quick, simple, and totally out of the way when not in use.

Also, anytime you bolt something in a van or pickup, you have to contend with the raised ribs of the metal floor and plan where to drill/bolt carefully. With the bike shoes, you are constrained to the 3 mounting holes and as I recall, these did not correspond very well with the spacing of the ribs in my Ford van. The Lock-N-Loads have like 16 mounting holes per unit which gives you lots of options and pretty much ensures you'll be able to line up well with the rib spacing on any floor.

This is what you want if you would like something quick to install and can be removed to still use your seats when needed.

I have the MX 3 bike mount specific for a Ford Transit and it works great for holding (3) full size MX bikes. I can pull it out when needed and slap the passenger seats in, the J-Hooks directly mount to existing seat brackets in the floor of the passenger model.
