RC gave up, Renner was still willing to go. Seems pretty clear who deserves the gold.

They should have moved the gate back 5' like they were going to do and let Renner try anyway. Looked like he wanted to.

Give Ronnie one more shot at it (since he hadnt cleared it either) and then if he makes it, its all his. Otherwise time was out and they split it. Sharing gold in step up has been done before. RC didnt make them do it.

Thats true, they didn't need to move it back because Ricky said he was done. Also agree Ricky wouldn't have said a word if they would have just given Renner the gold. My point was just that Renner was ready to try if he had to.

they should have backed the start up 5 feet like they were going to do anyway, and let Renner try again. If he couldn't make it after that, then yes they should have shared the gold. If he made it, the gold should have gone to Renner.

Step up lost any prestige it may have had. How may events ever end up with two winners?

x2

with a bigger run in ronnie could have done it. he had the world record for step up for the last couple years over 36 feet and it was done on the two stroke. the lines just werent set up as good for a two stroke, and plus i talked to him today and he said with training for his quarter pipe deal he hasnt had any practice for step up or best whip so he was feeling a little crusty. he started to get the hand of it towards the end

That shows you what this event really is .

A TV ratings generator, nobody at ESPN gives a shit about what the outcome is.

The only reason they should have split gold is if both were injured and couldn't take the next run.

Ummm.... I'm a huge RC fan so I'm a bit bias, but I think RC kicked serious ass. I mean, Renners shoulders in his last few attempts were where RC's back wheel was at.

If those guys are going to go any higher, they definitely need a higher landing ramp. Dropping 25 feet out of the sky can't feel too good, and it's not safe at all.

X2 I was thinking the same ....that landing from that high up is brutal on all the joints of the human body and you could see it when they landed shaking their wrists necks etc...... how about raising the landing after 30' and go up fron there? That way they wouldn't get hurt and try to break the height record w/o fear of getting hurt even if they stick the landing perfectly

Otherwise the step up sport will eventually die out by displacing its comeptitors with the reward of injury for going bigger...........nobody will want to do it if there are bad consequences even for winning

Or maybe use a dirt covered steel ramp thet can be lifted hydraulically in correlation with the height of the bar ....then you will see some record breaking heights.........do you really think these guys are going to put their careers and livelyhood to ride a bike at all on the line for an event that will surely injure them everytime they go up even if they win?

Most all these guys are competiting in another dicipline on sat ...be it super x, freestyle big trick, freestyle comp or super moto....they don'r want to get hurt on the first night and for some (racing the outdoors) it could possibly end their seasons....etc.

Heres my take on it. RC was hurt. He couldnt go on. To select an official "winner" they should have let Renner take a shot with the start moved back like they were going to. Whether or not he clears it would be irrelivant because if RC then decides not to go he forfeits. seems like fair rules to me. If someone had gotten hurt at 26 feet is he a "co-winner" too?

You have "wisdom beyond your years". Smile

It is all about TV..........not good or bad, just what it is.

RC, MC, K-Dub, et al ........will get more exposure this weekend then all year in just motocross.
